Job Overview:

Role Summary

The Molding Operator 3 is an advanced-level operator responsible for full machine setups, process control, and complex troubleshooting of molding equipment. This role serves as a technical resource within the department and plays a key role in maintaining process stability, reducing scrap, and optimizing machine performance. The Molding Operator 3 operates with minimal supervision and supports continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complete machine setups, mold changes, and material changeovers independently

  • Establish and verify proper process parameters to meet quality and production standards

  • Diagnose and resolve complex molding defects and process instability issues

  • Analyze scrap trends and implement corrective actions to improve yield and efficiency

  • Optimize cycle times and machine performance while maintaining quality requirements

  • Validate first-piece inspections and ensure conformance to control plans and specifications

  • Utilize precision measuring tools and quality documentation to verify dimensional accuracy

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance on tooling improvements and process enhancements

  • Support new product launches, trials, and process validation activities

  • Serve as an escalation point for Molding Operator 1 and 2 employees

  • Train and mentor lower-level operators on setup procedures, defect identification, and troubleshooting techniques

  • Ensure accurate production reporting and documentation in required systems

  • Maintain strict adherence to 5S standards and all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout

  • Participate in and lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on process capability and waste reduction

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required

  • Education: None

  • Experience: 4–6 years of progressive molding or manufacturing experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency in full machine setups and process troubleshooting

  • Strong understanding of molding parameters and defect root causes

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, control plans, and technical documentation

  • Experience using precision measuring instruments

  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during the shift

  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and repetitive hand movements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, and moving machinery

  • Manual dexterity to perform complex tooling changes and mechanical adjustments

  • Visual acuity to inspect parts and read gauges and documentation
