Overview

A leading organization in the food manufacturing and distribution space is seeking an experienced HVAC Systems Lead to support critical facility operations in Lansing, MI. This is a highly specialized, high-impact role responsible for bringing mechanical contractor capabilities in-house—enabling faster project execution, reducing reliance on third parties, and ensuring full compliance with Michigan mechanical codes.

This position is ideal for a licensed professional who thrives in a hands-on environment and can lead complex HVAC and mechanical system initiatives while mentoring a skilled maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the licensed Mechanical Contractor of record, enabling in-house permitting and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Lead and prioritize HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical system repairs and maintenance activities
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to maintenance technicians across multiple shifts
  • Support multiple facilities as needed, with primary responsibility in Lansing
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across HVAC, ammonia, and refrigerant systems
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Drive preventive maintenance (PM) programs and continuous improvement efforts
  • Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards, including SQF, GMP, and LOTO

Required Qualifications

  • Active Michigan Mechanical Contractor License (required, non-negotiable)- Must include:- 31 Limited Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Service - Unlimited Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Service

  • 5–7+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing or industrial maintenance

  • Strong technical expertise in HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical systems

  • Experience with electrical and hydraulic systems

  • Food manufacturing experience preferred

  • Familiarity with Lean principles and structured maintenance programs

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Work Environment

  • On-site role based in Lansing, MI
  • First shift schedule with flexibility (typical start between 6:00–8:00 AM)
  • On-call responsibilities as needed
  • Occasional travel to nearby facilities

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $95,000 – $110,000 (based on experience)
