We are seeking a detail-oriented, driven Paving Estimator to join our growing construction team. You will be responsible for evaluating project plans, conducting on-site measurements, and accurately forecasting the costs of asphalt and concrete paving projects. The ideal candidate ensures our bids are competitive, profitable, and submitted on time to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Evaluation & Takeoffs:
Attend pre-bid meetings and visit job sites to assess existing conditions, take field measurements, identify site drainage needs, and determine the scope of work.
- Cost Analysis:
Analyze project blueprints, specifications, and proposal documents to calculate the required quantities of materials, labor hours, and equipment needs.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination:
Request, review, and negotiate material pricing and quotes from suppliers, subcontractors, and trucking services to secure the best value.
- Proposal Drafting:
Prepare detailed, professional bid packages, outlining cost breakdowns, timelines, and project clarifications for clients.
- Project Transition:
Collaborate closely with the Project Management and Operations teams to transition successfully awarded contracts, ensuring field teams understand the project scope and budget.
- Bid Analysis:
Review project blueprints, specifications, addenda, and contract documents to clearly define the full paving scope.
- Database Maintenance:
Update and maintain estimating databases, cost libraries, and historical productivity rates to improve future bid accuracy. [1, 2]
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience:Minimum of 2-3 years of experience
in cost estimating, preferably within the asphalt paving, concrete, or heavy civil construction industries.
Experience with municipal and government bidding is preferred.
- Technical Skills:
Proficiency in reading engineering/architectural drawings and using industry-standard estimating and takeoff software.
- Mathematics & Analysis:
Strong mathematical skills with the ability to calculate square footage, cubic yards, and tonnage accurately.
- Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for dealing with clients, architects, and internal field crews.
- Driver’s License:
A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record, as site visits are required.
