Position Purpose

The Purchasing and Planning Manager, under the direction of the VP Operations, is responsible for the overall success of the production scheduling, purchasing, planning and production processes. This position leads the Scheduling and Planning team in meeting customer demands; provides leadership, direction, administration and coordination of all activities; oversees all purchasing, scheduling, and planning functions; and directly manages purchasing, scheduling, and planning team members.

Position Responsibilities

-Direct and/or assist specific functions and activities of assigned area including purchasing, production scheduling, and other customer support services.

-Design, develop and implement production scheduling processes and scheduling systems considering all aspects of production including low cost, timeliness, and effectiveness. --Manage scheduling team in the day-to-day operation to support this plan and systems.

-Monitor material inventories, track the progress of production, and review all factors that affect production schedules.

-Interface with multiple departments including sales, manufacturing, order entry/customer service, maintenance, warehouse and shipping to coordinate the processing of all orders.

-Develop/update work instructions as needed for the purchasing and planning areas of responsibility.

-Establish performance metrics for the Purchasing and Planning department and manage team efforts to meet and improve on the performance metrics.

-Ensure project/department milestones/goals are met and adhere to approved budgets.

-Manage and or conduct all purchasing activities and establish strategic purchasing processes and procedures, including commodity and MRO purchases, vendor selection, contract negotiations and rebate programs.

-Evaluate and analyze purchasing trends and price trends to identify forecasting demand and minimize purchasing costs.

-Work with senior management to set department budgetary limits based on historical numbers, departmental needs, growth expectations and company goals.

-Review/approve high dollar purchase order requests, based on parameters set by the Administrative Manager, based on need and department budget.

-Interview qualified applicants for open positions. Implement and assist in the on-boarding and training of new hires, coordinating with Human Resources and other departments.

-Responsible for the performance management, goal setting (including establishing performance metrics for direct reports in-line with departmental metrics), annual performance evaluations, on-going training, safety training compliance, retention, and all other tasks related to managing direct reports in meeting department goals and objectives.

-Cross-train direct reports to ensure department and task coverage at all times; coordinating such efforts with other departments and teams if the appropriate skills are not available among the direct reports.

-Assure the company’s compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations related to purchasing and planning activities.

-Participate actively in safety, ISO compliance and quality assurance efforts.

-Additional duties as requested/assigned.

Essential Job Functions/Abilities/Requirements

Years of Experience

-10+ years of progressively responsible planning, purchasing and/or scheduling experience in a production environment; 3+ years of management/supervisory experience.

Education

-Bachelor’s degree ideal or equivalent work experience.

-Computer/Technical Proficiency

-MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), Outlook

-Schedule/Availability

In the facilities Monday – Friday days; after hours and weekends as needed. Available as needed by email, voicemail and text when not in the facilities. Expectation is the employee will be available in person and/or by phone/computer all hours needed to effectively perform job duties and support operations and team members. Schedules are subject to change at any time to meet department and company business demands
