Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE

As an X-Ray Technician you will work to inspect castings using x-ray radiation and radiographic images to make sure they meet the standards and specifications of the customer and work instructions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Level One:
    • Follow work instructions for shooting castings.
    • Fixture parts and shoot casting on x-ray units, document results and perform equipment standardization in accordance with approved work instructions.
    • Conduct system performance checks in accordance with the applicable process standard.
    • Receive guidance or supervision from a certified Level 2 or Level 3 X-Ray Technician when necessary.
    • When specified in the written practice and approved by the Level 3 X-Ray Technician, may perform interpretations and evaluations of specific product(s) or product form(s) for acceptance or rejection in accordance with approved work instructions.
  • Level Two:
    • Set up and standardize equipment, process parts, interpret and evaluate for acceptance or rejection, and document results.
    • Be familiar with the limitations and scope of the technique and method.
    • Conduct system performance checks in accordance with the applicable process standard.
    • Can provide the necessary guidance and/or supervision to trainees and Level 1 personnel.
    • Use codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control the method as used by the employer or customer.
    • When specified in the written practice, be capable of developing work instructions from approved general procedures. These will require final approval by a Level 3 certified in the method.
    • Have a basic knowledge of relevant product manufacturing and inspection technology.

OTHER ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Study work instructions to determine product specifications, tool requirements, and operational sequences.
  • Complete daily inspections on tools and equipment, filling out forms when required to do so.
  • Maintain housekeeping in the work area at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain area per established 6S standards.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisory/management personnel.
  • Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations.
  • Key commands and data into computer to document and specify scan sequences, adjust transmitters and receivers, or photograph certain images.
  • Monitor video display of area being scanned and adjust density or contrast to improve picture quality.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance or minor emergency repairs on radiographic equipment.
  • Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to job instructions.
  • Position parts on film or image plate cassettes, expose to radiation and process film or image plates.
  • Interpret images and make accept / reject decisions utilizing work instruction and customers specifications. Document and report results as required.
  • Perform and document all process checks per work instructions and approved procedures. Including ensuring all equipment and gages utilized have current calibration stickers.
  • Remain familiar with all codes, standards and other contractual documents that control the radiographic methods.
  • Develop radiographic techniques or work instructions as required per work instructions or customer specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for certification to all levels shall complete sufficient formal training to become proficient with the principles and practices of the applicable test method and technique(s) and can carry out essential duties. Formal training shall be conducted prior to, or in conjunction with, on-the-job training.
