Position Overview
The Chief Operator – Initiating Explosives is responsible for safely handling, mixing, and processing chemical materials in accordance with established production and safety procedures. This role supports efficient manufacturing operations by operating manual and computer‑controlled equipment, monitoring production processes, and ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

 

Chief Operator - Initiating Explosives Essential Job Functions:

  • Handle, measure, and mix dry and liquid additives in accordance with approved formulas and procedures.
  • Operate manual, automated, and computer‑controlled processing equipment.
  • Monitor production flow, equipment performance, and report any issues or irregularities.
  • Transport materials using approved carts or material‑handling equipment.
  • Maintain accurate production, batch, inventory, and safety documentation.
  • Follow job safety procedures, safety operating procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and all PPE protocols.
  • Support continuous improvement, housekeeping, and safe‑work practices.


Chief Operator - Initiating Explosives Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience in chemical handling, mixing, or industrial manufacturing is required.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Must be able to properly wear and use a full-face respirator and an acid-resistant suit.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply written job safety procedures and safety operating procedures
  • Ability to climb steps, stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform repetitive tasks, work in outdoor conditions and extreme temperatures, and push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be available to work weekends and forced overtime in accordance with contract provisions and operational needs.


Location-Specific Requirements: 

  • This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. 
  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
