About the Role

HTI is seeking an experienced Welding Instructor / Training Specialist to provide hands-on welding instruction in a shipbuilding environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong shipyard or industrial welding experience and expertise with multiple welding processes, including MIG, TIG, Stick/SMAW, Spray, and Pulse welding.

Formal teaching experience is preferred but not required. Candidates who have experience mentoring, coaching, training, or qualifying other welders are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on and classroom training to welders and trades personnel.

• Teach welding techniques, processes, equipment setup, safety, and quality requirements.

• Train employees on MIG, TIG, Stick, Spray, and Pulse welding.

• Evaluate trainee performance and provide coaching and feedback.

• Develop and update lesson plans, training materials, and hands-on exercises.

• Identify skill gaps and adjust training to meet individual needs.

• Maintain accurate training and qualification records.

• Work with production leadership and technical experts to support workforce development.

• Continuously update training materials to reflect current welding procedures and requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or Apprentice School graduate + 3 years related exempt experience; OR High School/GED + 8 years related trade experience; OR Master's degree + 1 year related exempt experience.

• Strong hands-on welding experience, preferably in shipbuilding or a similar industrial environment.

• Experience with multiple welding processes, including MIG, TIG, Stick/SMAW, Spray, and Pulse.

• Strong understanding of welding safety, quality, and procedures.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work 2nd shift.

Teaching Experience

Formal instructor experience is not required. Experience as a welding lead, foreman, supervisor, mentor, trainer, or senior welder who has coached or trained other welders is highly valuable.
