Job Description: Beamline Welding Robot Rework Technician
Position Summary
The Beamline Welding Robot Rework Technician is responsible for setting up, programming, troubleshooting, operating, and maintaining automated robotic welding systems used in the production of structural steel beams and components. This role specializes in identifying, repairing, and reworking defective robotic welds to ensure all finished products meet engineering specifications, structural integrity requirements, and quality standards.
The ideal candidate has experience with robotic welding systems, blueprint reading, manual MIG welding, quality inspections, and preventive maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Set up, program, operate, and monitor automated robotic welding cells.
Load and unload structural beams and fabricated components into welding fixtures.
Position workpieces using jigs and fixtures to ensure proper weld placement.
Adjust robot welding parameters, including travel speed, weld sequence, and positioning, according to engineering specifications.
Modify welding positions and robot programming with supervisor approval.
Maintain knowledge of TCP (Tool Center Point/Torch Control Point) calibration and robotic torch positioning.
Perform robotic torch maintenance, including replacement of contact tips, gas nozzles, gas distributors, and other consumable parts.
Troubleshoot robot faults, welding defects, and production interruptions to minimize downtime.
Repair and rework robotic welds using manual MIG welding techniques to meet AWS and customer quality standards.
Grind, clean, and finish welds as required.
Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
Perform dimensional and visual inspections using:- Tape measures
- Weld gauges

- Hook control cameras
Verify weld quality, dimensions, and component fit-up before releasing parts.
Create or modify welding jigs and fixtures as needed to improve quality and productivity.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on robotic welding equipment.
Document production output, downtime, maintenance activities, quality inspections, and rework performed.
Maintain a clean and organized work area while following all safety policies and PPE requirements.
Collaborate with supervisors, maintenance personnel, and quality teams to improve robotic welding processes.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical school or vocational training in welding, robotics, or manufacturing preferred.
- Manual welding certification required.
- AWS Welding Certification preferred.
- Previous experience operating robotic welding equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with structural steel, roll forming, stamping, or heavy manufacturing preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting robotic welding cells.
- Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication prints.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
- Ability to fabricate or modify welding fixtures and jigs.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Basic computer skills for operating robot controllers and production documentation.
- Experience with Siemens PLC-controlled equipment preferred.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequently lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces when required.
- Manual dexterity to operate welding equipment, measuring tools, and robotic controls.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment exposed to heat, sparks, noise, and moving equipment while wearing required PPE.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with robotic welding systems such as ABB, Fanuc, Yaskawa/Motoman, or Panasonic.
- Knowledge of Siemens PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment.
- Experience with structural steel fabrication and beam manufacturing.
- Understanding of AWS welding codes and quality standards.
- Experience in continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, or 5S initiatives.
