Job Overview:

Position Summary

The Welding Quality Inspector ensures welded assemblies, pressure vessels, structural fabrications, and custom manufactured products meet Company, customer, and applicable code requirements. Performs in-process and final inspections, verifies compliance with ASME codes, welding procedures, and engineering drawings, and partners with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality to maintain the highest standards of safety, workmanship, and product quality.
 
 The ideal candidate has experience in ASME code fabrication, pressure vessels, nuclear manufacturing, or heavy industrial fabrication.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of welded fabrications, pressure vessels, and structural assemblies.
  • Verify compliance with ASME Section VIII, ASME Section IX, customer specifications, engineering drawings, and Company quality standards.
  • Inspect weld preparation, fit-up, dimensional tolerances, weld profiles, and completed weldments.
  • Verify compliance with WPS and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).
  • Review weld maps, travelers, inspection reports, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Identify and document nonconforming conditions.
  • Support VT, PT, MT, UT, and RT examinations as required.
  • Verify material traceability and review MTRs and certifications.
  • Support ASME, National Board, customer, and regulatory audits.
  • Support CAPA investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma in Welding Technology, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of welding inspection or fabrication quality experience.
  • Experience inspecting ASME code weldments and pressure vessels preferred.
  • Experience in nuclear, heavy industrial, power generation, aerospace, or custom fabrication manufacturing strongly preferred.

Required Knowledge

  • ASME Section VIII and IX
  • AWS D1.1 preferred
  • Blueprint reading and welding symbols
  • GD&T and dimensional inspection
  • WPS, PQR, and WPQ documentation
  • Quality Management Systems and material traceability

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent attention to detail and mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP quality documentation systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Certifications

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) strongly preferred.
  • ASNT Level II (VT, PT, MT, UT, or RT).
  • Certified Quality Inspector (CQI).
