Welding Equipment Technician (Travel 30%)
Compensation: $20–$27/hr base. This position is approximately 70% local warehouse work and 30% traveling field assignments. When on field rotations, earn significantly more on a 7/12 schedule with straight time, overtime, and double-time on Sundays and Holidays.
Purpose of Role
The Technician is responsible for equipment maintenance and readiness. During field project assignments, the Technician performs support role duties including repair and calibration of welding, gouging, and blasting systems for field and/or in-house use. Additional duties may include NDE tasks (such as VT, PT, and UT thickness) for weld samples and projects, pending applicable training and certifications. Non-field assignment includes warehouse and equipment maintenace dutes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure all necessary materials, equipment, and tooling are present and maintained in a safe and reliable working condition upon unload and throughout the duration of each project.
- Assist with equipment logs and site inventory management of materials and consumables.
- Set up and install all equipment associated with weld overlay projects, staged for safety and efficiency while maintaining good housekeeping of the workspace.
- Ensure weld overlay machines and all support equipment are performing correctly and within parameters for safe operation and quality results.
- Work with welding and NDE personnel to train and demonstrate proper equipment use and positioning to ensure quality standards are met.
- Follow and ensure compliance with all applicable safety policies, regulations, and safe work practices at all times.
- Adhere to quality standards while ensuring productivity standards and schedules are met.
- Ensure all equipment is accounted for and properly stored using the original equipment checklist; report and tag any missing or defective equipment.
- Assist craft personnel (welders, laborers) in a support role on various project tasks as needed.
- Assist with warehouse tasks including repairing, testing, fabrication R&D, and general warehouse duties.
- Demonstrate effective teamwork and cooperation with all employees and customers.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least one (1) year of hands-on experience in the weld overlay and/or industrial construction industry preferred
- Knowledge and ability to operate common tools and equipment used in the welding industry
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with computers and common software programs (e.g., MS Excel)
- Ability to follow instructions given orally or in writing
- Flexibility and willingness to work varying schedules as needed
- Must conduct all duties in an ethical manner and comply with all company policies and employment screening requirements
Physical Demands
Work is performed in and around heavy construction and maintenance sites under varying weather and environmental conditions. The role requires standing, walking, climbing ladders and scaffolding for extended periods, as well as bending, stooping, pushing, carrying, and maneuvering equipment weighing up to 100 pounds. Must be able to work in confined, noisy areas with elevated temperatures and humidity.
Work Environment & Equipment
Work environments include warehouse, shop, and field locations at various industrial job sites. Equipment used includes company vehicles, laptop computers, cell phones, radio equipment, potential heavy equipment, and various industry tools and support equipment.
Travel
Domestic and international travel to industrial work sites is required as projects arise, including potential assignments in the USA, Canada, and other countries. A current US Passport and valid driver's license are highly recommended.
- Field work typically involves working 7-12's, with ST/OT/DT applicable (DT = double-time on Sundays and Holidays).
- Travel is a firm requirement when needed for field work.
