Job Overview:

NOW HIRING: INDUSTRIAL WELDER / FITTER – 1ST SHIFT

Monday–Friday | 5:00AM–1:30PM | On-site in Douglassville, PA

Job Title: Welder / Fitter
Location: 531 Old Swede Road – Douglassville, PA 19518
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 5:00AM–1:30PM | Full-time on-site
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience, skills, and market data—top-of-range compensation is reserved for candidates who demonstrate strong, job-relevant experience and independent capability

If you’re someone who understands that welding starts with fit-up—and you take ownership of your work from layout through final weld—this role will feel like a natural fit.

At American Crane & Equipment Corporation (ACECO), we’re looking for skilled Welder/Fitters who can handle structural steel fabrication, not just welding—but full layout, fit-up, alignment, and assembly of heavy industrial components.

We build equipment where precision, safety, and craftsmanship matter—this is work our team takes pride in.

You won’t get lost here—your work will be seen, and it will matter.

What This Role Really Is

This is a hands-on structural welding and fitting role—you’ll spend most of your time laying out, fitting, aligning, and welding large steel components in a manufacturing environment, and being accountable for fit-up accuracy, weld quality, and structural integrity

Who Thrives Here (and Who Doesn’t)

You’ll do well here if you:

  • Take ownership of your work from layout through final weld
  • Understand that proper fit-up drives weld quality
  • Take pride in accuracy, alignment, and structural integrity

This role is likely not a fit if you:

  • Prefer repetitive or light fabrication work
  • Rely on others to fix fit-up issues before welding
  • Cut corners on prep, alignment, or quality

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

  • Learn ACECO fabrication standards, weld procedures, and safety requirements
  • Independently perform layout, fit-up, and structural assembly work
  • Produce consistent, high-quality welds across multiple positions
  • Work effectively with supervisors and team members to meet production goals
  • Demonstrate reliability, accuracy, and ownership in daily work

Why Join Our Team at American Crane? (Check us out on YouTube here)

  • Impact – Build large-scale industrial equipment used in critical applications
  • Craftsmanship – Work on real fabrication projects, not repetitive production work
  • Growth – Continue developing advanced welding and fitting skills
  • Stability & Culture – Join a team built on accountability, teamwork, and GRIT

What You’ll Do

Fit-Up & Structural Assembly

  • Lay out, fit, and assemble structural steel components prior to welding
  • Align, clamp, and tack components to meet blueprint and tolerance requirements
  • Verify dimensions, squareness, and fit-up using measuring tools
  • Perform rework (grinding, torching, adjusting) to ensure proper fit before welding

Welding & Fabrication

  • Perform SMAW (stick), FCAW (flux core), and GTAW (TIG) welding
  • Produce quality welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions
  • Set up and adjust welding equipment for optimal performance

Blueprint & Technical Work

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics
  • Fabricate and assemble structural and machine components

Material Handling & Shop Support

  • Operate cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace
  • Participate in cross-training and continuous development

What We’re Looking For

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience

  • 3+ years of industrial welding and structural fitting experience
  • Experience with heavy plate, large weldments, and fabricated assemblies preferred

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in SMAW, FCAW, and GTAW welding processes
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Experience with layout, fit-up, and structural alignment

Skills & Attributes

  • Fitting-first mindset with ability to independently prepare work before welding
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and measurement accuracy
  • Ability to identify and correct fit-up issues prior to welding
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Reliable, accountable, and consistent in attendance and performance
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Alignment with ACECO values: Work Hard, Have Fun, and Do the Right Thing

REQUIREMENTS

  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
  • Ability to verify identity and employment authorization (Form I-9)
  • Eligibility to access export-controlled information where applicable
  • Willingness to undergo a background check in accordance with applicable laws
  • Willingness to undergo a pre-employment drug screen and randomized drug testing during employment
  • Ability to meet the posted work schedule and required hours
  • Ability to maintain reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Willingness to follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Willingness to wear appropriate PPE when in shop areas
  • Willingness to complete required safety and compliance training
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to maintain professional conduct aligned with company expectations

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work on your feet for extended periods
  • Ability to work in an industrial fabrication environment with exposure to welding fumes and noise
  • Ability to safely operate welding equipment, tools, and material handling equipment

Work Environment

  • Industrial manufacturing and fabrication environment
  • Exposure to machinery, welding operations, and fabrication processes
  • Exposure to heat, noise, vibration, and airborne particles
