Job Description:
Summary
This Operations group position executes procedures as they relate to fabrication, layout and preparation for welding operations needed for throughput of production parts, shop fixtures and other miscellaneous items.
Responsibilities
• Review shop drawings and other pertinent project information to identify and understand the scope of fabrication and process control requirements for each project.
• Read and understand shop drawings, weld symbols and WPSs.
• Understand the requirements of the pertinent AWS welding code.
• Discuss and disseminate project requirements with management and other personnel.
• Properly and safely handle work pieces using overhead crane equipment.
• Verify component parts of weldment comply dimensionally with shop drawing details including weld preparations.
• Communicate material quality issues to quality and supervisory personnel.
• Set up and operate equipment for cutting, bending, milling, drilling and other operations as required for various materials.
• Mark layout lines for component part locations forming subassemblies compliant with shop drawing details.
• Preheat and measure material temperature in preparation for tack welding as necessary.
• Tack weld component parts sufficiently to ensure their proper placement, alignment and orientation in the subassembly is achieved on completion of production welding.
• Identify and incorporate bracing into tack welded subassemblies to control distortion during production welding.
• Verify subassemblies comply dimensionally with shop drawings after the completion of tack welding and bracing.
• Other duties as required.
Qualifications
Work Experience ……………………… 2 – 4 years as a production welder or fabricator.*
Education & Training ……………….. High school graduate.*
Skills and Knowledge Areas
Required ………………………………….. Required and preferred welder capabilities, shop drawing reading and interpretation, layout, distortion control methods, multitasking, process adherence.
Preferred …………………………………. Weld quality inspection, AWS D1.5 procedure qualification.
