Welder Night Shift
JOB SUMMARY
Lay out, fit, and weld metal components to assemble beds, frames, and small parts work orders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively observe and promote BWise safety standards
- Analyze drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operation.
- Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications, using a variety of measuring tools.
- Tack-weld or welds component and assemblies using welding equipment.
- Monitor welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
- Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisor.
- Evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
- Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances using appropriate measuring instruments.
- Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinder or hand file.
- Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Ignite torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
- Other duties, as assigned by Welding Supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be capable of standing for entire shift and sit for extended periods of time.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs; ability to demonstrate full range of motion for reaching, bending, kneeling and stooping.
- Will be exposed to extreme heat and cold depending on weather.
- Subject to dirt, dust, oil, welding fumes, electric shock, bright lights, UV radiation, burns, traffic hazards, and high noise levels in the workplace.
PPE REQUIREMENTS
- Steel-toed shoes or composite shoes
- Safety glasses
- Earplugs
- Gloves when handling any material
- Welding Helmet (Company doesn’t provide helmet but provides all consumables including lenses.)
- Grinding shield
- Welding sleeves
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be able to read, write, count, communicate by various channels.
- Must have appropriate high school, vocational-technology school, or trade school training/certification in welding and/or demonstrated ability/expertise from on-the-job training from previous employment.
- Understand fundamentals of metallurgy as they relate to welding.
- Ability to read a tape measure.
- Ability to read and fully comprehend work instructions, prints, and work specifications.
