Description

Summary: Fabricate daily production quantities of metal parts by tasks such as cutting, drilling, grinding and welding.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Report to work on time and stay in good standings with the Malibu attendance policy.
  • Communicate to others respectfully and contribute to positive moral in the department.
  • Participate in solving problems concerning safety, quality, delivery and other specified company information.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.

Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly/tacking and or welding using prescribed fixtures and proper work procedures

  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, shielded metal arc, and submerged arc welding, within the parameters outlined in work procedures
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Monitor welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
  • Determine required equipment and welding methods via established work procedures and apply proper welding techniques.
  • Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
  • Position and secure work-pieces, using hoists, cranes
  • Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
  • All duties must be performed in accordance with Malibu’s safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications


Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • General knowledge of operating power tools and hand tools
  • Read and execute fabrication instructions and simple engineering drawings
  • Read a tape measure, micrometer, level and other common measuring devices
  • Knowledge of welding aluminum and steel with a mig welder
  • Basic knowledge of welder operations such as: changing wire, tips, bottles, lines, leads, etc…

 

Education and/or Experience:  

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Or one to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience; Minimum of 6 months welding experience at a moderate production pace

 

Language Skills:  

Ability to read and interpret English documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

 

Mathematical Skills:  

Ability to add and subtract three digit numbers;  Ability to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s; Ability to convert basic fractions into decimals; Ability to use a calculator

 

Reasoning Ability: 

Ability to identify nonconforming parts to determine pass/fail criteria

 

Other Qualifications: 

Valid Tennessee driver’s license; must be able to obtain a Powered Industrial Truck Certification
