Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs processes for various types of weld preparation, fabrication, welding, and weld finishing operations.
- Manufactures product-to-customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction.
- Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows safety regulations.
- Ability to weld on a flat, curved, or vertical surface.
- Ability to set a welding machine, including the gas, volts, amps, and wire speed.
- Ability to weld in a variety of positions, including overhead.
- Be able to make minor adjustments to the welding equipment as needed.
- Properly load raw materials, parts, etc., into the welding fixture.
- Removes workpieces and scrap from machines.
- Files grind or scrape sharp edges, burrs, scales, or rust from work pieces.
- Hammers out bent or warped spots in metal.
- Sorts, marks, tags finished work.
- Transports material or acts as a signal crane operator to move materials.
- Compares workpieces with a straight edge or template to verify conformance to specifications.
- Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
- Performs other routine duties as needed.
Qualifications:
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential functions and skills listed below:
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure and other measuring tools.
- Ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations following the supervisor’s instruction.
- Aptitude to learn and retain new information.
- Ability to follow instructions, given either verbally or in writing.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to read blueprints and manufacturing orders.
Education and experience:
- Successful completion of an internal weld test.
- Diploma/GED.
- 2 years of working experience or equivalent training preferred.
- Math skills: Ability to add two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Ability to stand and move about on concrete 8-12 hours a day. Ability to see, walk, bend, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb (including ladders), work overhead, push, and pull.
- Ability to do heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) multiple times daily in a 10 to 12-hour shift.
- Ability to maneuver large parts and assemblies (up to 180 pounds) by pushing, pulling, and flipping them into place.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- The use of Safety Glasses is required.
- Steel or Composite Toed Boots and hearing protection is required.
