IKO is a global leader in manufacturing roofing products with production facilities worldwide. We are currently seeking a Welder Journeyman to join our team of skilled professionals based at our Bismarck, Missouri plant. This plant produces granules from raw material for our vertically integrated shingle manufacturing operation.

Job Summary

The Welder Journeyman is responsible for fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing metal structures and equipment using various welding techniques. This role ensures the safe and reliable operation of plant machinery through the fabrication, assembly, and repair of metal structures and mechanical assemblies. This role will report to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform welding using MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and other approved welding processes.

  • Read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, specifications, and welding symbols.

  • Fabricate, assemble, and repair metal components, structures, and mechanical assemblies.

  • Measure, cut, grind, and prepare materials for welding.

  • Inspect completed welds to ensure quality, strength, and compliance with specifications.

  • Operate welding machines, cutting torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and related hand and power tools.

  • Conduct NDT/SDT testing of applicable welds to provide evidence of quality.

  • Conduct routine maintenance on welding equipment and tools.

  • Perform and assist tradesmen with preventative and predictive maintenance on production equipment.

  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.

  • Follow all safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Utilize Maximo computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

  • Work from detailed work orders, schematics, and engineering drawings.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of work completed and materials used.

  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other skilled trades personnel to complete projects on schedule.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman-level welding experience or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.

  • Welding certifications preferred (AWS or equivalent).

  • Thorough knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and technical manuals.

  • Strong knowledge of NDT/SDT testing methods and acceptability criteria.

  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety practices.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Proven experience working in and maintaining a safe work environment with intimate knowledge of LOTO procedures or other relevant safety practices

  • Proficiency in multiple welding processes.

  • Strong mathematical and measurement skills.

  • Ability to identify welding defects and perform corrective actions.

  • Excellent attention to detail and workmanship quality.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to lead, guide, and mentor junior welders

  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining safety and quality standards.

  • Ability to manage time effectively while handling multiple jobs with varying priorities

  • Must be able to work in a team setting with other tradesman

  • Rotating shifts, holidays, and overtime may be required.

  • Must wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work in industrial environments including exposure to dust, noise, heat, and moving equipment.

  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and enter confined spaces as required.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift

The Welder Journeyman is expected to comply with all safety policies, regulatory requirements, and company procedures to ensure safe and compliant operations at all times. The Welder Journeyman must prioritize safety in all tasks. This is a safety sensitive position.
