WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a welder - II, you will be responsible for assembling pieces of metal together or repairing damage in metal components using heavy machinery that emits high heat, melting the metal into shape. Their duties include reviewing blueprints, cutting metal into the appropriate shape and smoothing molten metal to remove creases.

 

  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
  • Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical and horizontal).
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
  • Lift and move heavy objects
  • Keep work area clean
  • Observe all safety rules, company policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

 

YOUR EXPERIENCES & SKILLS

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED 
  • Three (3) years experience in mig or tig welding preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Work well with a team and independently

REPORTS TO: Weld Shop Manager

SALARY GRADE: 12
