The Welder will be responsible for performing multiple tasks to support End of Car Cushion Units. In addition to welding, you will have responsibility for disassembling, assembling, cleaning, requalifying, and rework of components as well as other duties as assigned as needed. Upon completing tasks, each welder will serve as an inspector to ensure all weld work is within defined quality specifications.

This is a 2nd shift position with standard hours Monday-Thursday 4pm-2:30am

Essential Responsibilities:

As a welder at Kansas City Repair you will be responsible for fabricating and welding components that will be used in the End of Car Cushion Units. In addition to welding processes and procedures, you will use any or all the following tools to complete duties as assigned: weld torches, plasma cutters, electric/pneumatic tools (grinders, sanders, chippers, drill press, band saw, lathe, spot welder, etc.), overhead cranes and forklifts. This role may be required to assist in any or all the product lines in the facility.

Responsible for welding metal components as specified by layout, blueprints, diagrams, or standard operating procedures (SOP), using electric arc-welding equipment.

In addition, you must weld components in accordance with standard GMAW processes and applications with the desired outcome of joining a variety of material types and thicknesses together in accordance with site specifications.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Successful completion of MIG/GMAW training course/program OR minimum 1 year of experience as a MIG/GMAW and Subarc welding
  • Ability to weld in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead)
  • Ability to pass Qualification/Certification after 180 days, following AWS-D15.1 Guidelines
  • Willingness to complete some general assembly work
  • Ability to read simple to complex blue prints and manufacturing instructions
  • Ability to lift material up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to wear PPE such as a respirator, weld jackets, gloves, welder hoods, ear plugs, and proper eye protection

Desired Characteristics:

  • Technical School certification preferred
  • Knowledge of EHS procedures and policies
  • Ability to use manual equipment and hand tools safely
  • Working knowledge of inspection measurement equipment
  • Understanding of manufacturing and quality procedures in a lean manufacturing environment
  • Prior fork truck and overhead crane experience preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively on a team
  • Excellent customer service skills
