We’re seeking experienced Welders to join our team in locomotive rebuild operations. This is heavy welding work involving large components, complex joints, and a mix of welding techniques. You’ll be responsible for laying out, tacking, fitting, and welding on both plate and pipe materials in a physically demanding and dirty environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform MIG (90%) and Stick (10%) welding on low carbon steel plate and pipe.
- Weld in all positions: flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
- Fit and weld large components directly on locomotives (not fixtured).
- Use plasma cutters, carbon arc gougers, and oxy torches for prep and rework.
- Weld groove and fillet joints, including large socket joints in 5F pipe positions.
- Read and interpret weld prints and AWS welding symbols.
- Perform aesthetic grinding and contour finishing.
- Operate overhead cranes (remote/pendant controlled) as needed.
Required Skills & Experience
- MIG welding experience with .035, .045, and .052 electrodes (spray transfer and short circuit).
- Stick welding experience with 7018 and 6010 electrodes
- Ability to weld pipe in 5F position using socket joints.
- Able to perform PJP and CJP welds (with ceramic backing).
- Basic computer skills for accessing electronic instructions.
- Able to read a tape measure to sixteenths.
- Comfortable working in dirty environments with oil, fluids, and contaminants.
- Willing to work in stations along the locomotive (not traditional weld benches).
- TIG and Flux Core welding experience is a plus.
