PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Casting Repair: Fill, blend, and repair defects, holes, or cracks in metal castings using MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), or arc welding.
- Finishing: Perform grinding, polishing, and sanding on castings to remove excess weld, The individual should have strong skill on grinding and buffing weld repair areas to bring them to drawing’s dimension and surface profile requirement. Grinds or chips rough edges, surplus weld, or scale.
- Inspection: Individuals are required to inspect the pre-existing weld, of the received part, to ensure and uphold the integrity of the part. Individuals are requested to be able to inspect the part prior and post weld to ensure it meets the requirements of the task.
- Material Preparation: Prepare, cut, and bevel, or gouge castings for welding using torches or saws. As well as will utilize cranes and hoist forklift on designated tasks. Places and moves blocking, braces, and jigs to hold parts.
- Equipment Maintenance: Monitor and maintain welding machinery, torches, and tools to prevent overheating and ensure optimal performance. Maintain a clean and organized working area in accordance with safety policy.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety rules, including wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect against, heat, sparks, and fumes.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.
- Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: A high school diploma or GED is the minimum requirement, often supplemented by vocational or technical school training.
- Ability to pass a drug screen & background check.
- 5-7 years of traditional welding experience (Job Shop and Welding experience).
- Must be GTAW Certified (SMAW & GMAW certifications are a plus).
- Skills & Training: Proficiency in arc welding, brazing, and soldering is necessary. Knowledge of grinding, sand/shot blasting, and finishing to remove cast defects is common in foundry roles.
- Certifications: While not always mandatory, AWS certification is highly regarded. Specific certifications may include Certified Welder or Certified Foundry Specialist (CFS).
- Technical Skills: Ability to read blueprints/drawings; weld to specific tolerances; read and interpret Welding Procedure Specification (WPS); Knowledge of welding practices and standards such as ASME & AWS; knowledge of fabrication tools such as grinders, etc; Knowledge of High-Alloys; Stainless Steels, Mid-Alloys, and Carbon Steels; Knowledge of NCR process; Familiarity with gas shields and welding consumable specs; ability to weld in Flat/Horizontal positions; and ability to weld on an open root groove and fillet Weld.
- Forklift Certification a plus.
- Must be willing and able to work flexible shifts and changing work schedule.
- Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job.
- Per HSE requirements, you could be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work potentially will be performed in areas where harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing chemicals).
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as gloves, clothing, glasses, goggles, respirator/face mask, ear plugs/muffs and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Physical stature must be such that the individual can operate a machine eight (8) to twelve (12) hours per day.
- No reoccurring physical problems that could be aggravated by this type of work.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to listen to machine and tooling to ensure the machine and tooling are operating properly.
- The employee must be able to lift, pull, or push up to 50 pounds during set-ups.
- While doing set-ups and verifying measurements employee will routinely bend.
