Description
Essential Functions:
- Work with welding and fabrication crew to design, build, and repair structural components with minimal supervision in the shop or field environment.
- Meet daily work and productions requirements with a high degree of quality.
- Inspect and ensure all welds and work is of good quality.
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
- Perform basic layouts of materials to ensure proper fit-up.
- Ensure blueprints for job layouts and/or material removals are correct (if required).
- Ensure any deviation from prints are approved by the Welding Shop Supervisor or Lead Welder.
- Monitor and track materials and time on production projects for invoicing and tracking purposes for Lead Welder and/or Shop Supervisor.
- Direct and control Welder Helper(s) in their duties and responsibilities under their supervision as needed.
- Direct positive and/or negative issues within shop or field environment to the Lead Welder or Welding Shop Supervisor.
- Support and acknowledge all positive attributes within the shop.
- Promote a safe and positive relationship within the welding shop environment and between Knight’s Companies divisions
- Work closely with crane operator(s), using proper rigging and signals.
- Coordinate with intercompany divisions on production priorities and needs.
- Keep work space tidy and organizes within the shop, in company vehicles, and on job sites.
- Inspect tools and equipment prior to use and use properly.
- Remove any tools or equipment if they are unsafe and notify Shop Supervisor.
- Follow company-assigned safety policies and procedures without exception.
- Notify Welding Shop Supervisor or Lead Welder of any safety related issues within any division or environment while designing, building, or the fabricating of any project or structure.
- Help to provide any corrective action in those areas (if necessary).
- Attend company-provided and/or company-sponsored training classes as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience (2-5 years) in welding, manufacturing, or other related fields.
- Working knowledge of and certification in Stick and Mig welding preferred, but not required.
- Working knowledge of and certification in Flux and Tig welding preferred, but not required.
- Ability to read, interpret, and prepare work from blueprints, including material removals.
- Working knowledge of the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) and American Weld Society (ASW) weld symbols.
- Commitment to and willingness to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when working.
- Ability to work in harsh environments while promoting and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Ability to handle physical workload.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.
- Some travel required.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs.
- Ability to carry minimum of 60 lbs. over a 5 foot span.
- Ability to push / pull a minimum of 50 lbs. across a 10 foot span.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. from waist to shoulder.
- Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and scaffolding.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to bend or twist body without restriction.
- Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl.
