Welder (Temp-to-Perm Opportunity)

Position Overview
A local Milwaukee-based heavy assembly and manufacturing company is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Welder to support a busy production environment. This is a hands-on role focused on producing high-quality welds while supporting overall production efficiency and maintaining strict quality and safety standards.
This position offers a temporary-to-permanent opportunity, with an hourly pay increase upon successful transition to a permanent role.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical welding skills, the ability to read and work from blueprints, and a commitment to precision in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform MIG welding on metal components (up to 2” thick) in flat, vertical, and angled positions using wire up to 1/16”.
- Prepare materials for welding, including preheating parts when required.
- Set up and align parts according to blueprint specifications using fixtures and measuring tools.
- Inspect welds and finished components for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
- Identify and report defects or non-conforming materials.
- Assist with maintaining an efficient workflow within the welding and fabrication process.
- Safely operate forklifts and other equipment to move and position materials.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area aligned with 5S standards.
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and quality protocols.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to welding processes.
- Complete required documentation and follow standardized procedures, including ISO guidelines.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- 1–2+ years of welding experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Formal welding training or certification preferred.
- Proficiency with MIG welding equipment, including setup and basic maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience using measuring tools, including tape measures (to 1/32”), squares, and levels.
- Familiarity with grinders and common fabrication tools.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and work in a physically active environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Dependable with solid communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime or weekends as needed.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hard-facing wire applications (such as Stoody).
- Forklift certification (sit-down).
- Familiarity with torque tools and precision measuring equipment.
- Experience working in an ISO-certified manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
- Industrial manufacturing setting with exposure to heat, noise, fumes, and heavy equipment.
- Requires standing, bending, lifting, and movement throughout the workday.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times (provided).
- Overtime and schedule flexibility may be required to meet production needs.
