Are you a self-motivated, team player looking for a position that allows you to continue to learn and grow? SMC Metal is looking for a full-time Fabrication Technician to join our team. Position is open to experience Press Brake Operators, Laser Operators, and Welders. Don't have any experience?  NO PROBLEM!  No experience is necessary as we offer paid on-the-job training with our skill-based pay system. This means that you will receive additional compensation for every skill that you complete.

Starting pay is $17.85 per hour. Additional pay based on experience

This is a weekend position working Friday - Sunday from 6:00am-6:00pm.  Work 36 hours but get paid for 40!

Position Description:

Fabrication Technicians are cross trained to setup, program, and run all of our machines which include lasers, turret, EMLK, press brakes and weld. Fabrication Technicians will learn to read and interpret blueprints, use measuring equipment, handle materials, troubleshoot, perform quality inspections, and perform preventative maintenance.

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  2. No manufacturing experience required.
  3. Analytical and mathematical skills to interpret layouts and blueprints.
  4. Ability to troubleshoot problems as they occur.
  5. Physical requirements – person must stand for the entire shift, lift up to 50 pounds repetitively throughout the shift, and have good balance along with hand-eye-foot coordination.
  6. Required to have their own tools (caliper, square, protractor, etc.)
  7. Must be self-motivated, team player and have good written and oral communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  
Duties may be modified or additional duties assigned.

  1. Set-up and operate lasers, turret, EMLK and press brakes.
  2. Weld and metal finish components as specified by layouts, engineer drawings, work orders, or verbal instructions.
  3. Perform tasks such as selecting operating programs from database, send the program to the machine, select and mount fixtures.
  4. Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with SMC’s policies and procedures.
  5. Set-up and troubleshoot machine as problems arise.
  6. Operate the Wilson tool sharpener and sheet lifting crane.
  7. Use measuring instruments such as caliper, square, protractor, etc.
  8. Ensure quality parts.
  9. Operator is responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance. 
  10. Other duties as assigned.
