Pay

  • $20–$25/hour for non-certified wastewater operators working 2nd, 3rd, and weekend shifts
  • $25–$36/hour for actively certified wastewater operators working 1st shift

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Wastewater Technician to join a leading metal recycling and manufacturing facility in Hartford, CT. This position will operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater treatment equipment used in the metal washing process while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, safety requirements, and company procedures.

The ideal candidate will have previous wastewater treatment experience or a background working with chemicals and pH testing. This person should be comfortable monitoring treatment systems, conducting routine water quality testing, recording results, and troubleshooting process issues in an industrial setting.

Schedule

Training: First 2-4 weeks on 1st Shift

Weekend Night Shift

Thursday: 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM

Friday: 10:30 PM – 11:00 AM

Saturday: 10:30 PM – 11:00 AM

Sunday: 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM

2nd Shift

Monday–Friday: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM

3rd Shift

Monday–Friday: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM

1st Shift

Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Active Wastewater Operator certification required

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and adjust industrial wastewater treatment equipment and metal washing systems.
  • Monitor pumps, tanks, filters, chemical feed systems, and other treatment equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Perform routine water quality testing and accurately document test results and operating data.
  • Collect samples and monitor treatment system performance to maintain environmental and operational standards.
  • Troubleshoot wastewater treatment equipment and communicate issues to maintenance or supervision.
  • Complete daily operating logs, inspection reports, and required regulatory documentation.
  • Safely unload and move incoming materials using a forklift. Training and certification will be provided if needed.
  • Sort, weigh, label, and prepare recycled materials for production.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company safety, environmental, and quality procedures.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience operating wastewater treatment systems or experience working with chemicals and pH testing.
  • Experience in an industrial, municipal, manufacturing, or similar wastewater treatment environment.
  • Understanding of wastewater treatment processes, equipment, and routine water quality testing.
  • Ability to monitor treatment systems, recognize operating conditions, and make necessary process adjustments.
  • Experience maintaining operating logs and documenting treatment data.
  • Forklift experience preferred; willingness to become forklift certified.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to work overnight and/or weekend shifts.

  • Comfortable working in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, moisture, and varying temperatures.
