Wastewater Operator

Location: Hartford, CT

Pay: $20–$35 per hour

Shift: 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift - Weekend days included

Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Wastewater Operator in an industrial manufacturing and metal recycling environment. The Wastewater Operator will be responsible for supporting wastewater treatment operations, monitoring equipment, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring compliance with company safety and environmental procedures.

This position is ideal for someone with experience in industrial operations, manufacturing, machine operation, or wastewater treatment who is comfortable working in a hands-on environment.

Essential Job Duties

• Operate and monitor wastewater treatment equipment and systems.

• Perform routine inspections of machinery, equipment, and processing areas.

• Maintain cleanliness of assigned machinery, equipment, and work areas.

• Maintain accuracy of all required paperwork and operational records.

• Monitor wastewater treatment processes and report any abnormalities or concerns.

• Follow established procedures for sampling, identifying, and processing materials when required.

• Label, stencil, or otherwise identify containers used to store materials.

• Immediately notify supervisors of any equipment malfunction, process issue, or potential problem that may affect operations.

• Follow all written safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.

• Comply with company quality assurance and operating procedures

• Complete all necessary paperwork and documentation assigned by the supervisor.

• Support other production, processing, and facility operations as needed.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in wastewater treatment, industrial operations, manufacturing, or machine operation preferred.

• Ability to operate and monitor machinery and equipment.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to follow written procedures and safety guidelines.

• Good organizational and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Ability to work overnight shifts in an industrial environment.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 3 years of industrial or municipal wastewater treatment experience.
• Strong knowledge of biological, chemical, and physical wastewater treatment processes.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process-related issues.
• Experience collecting samples and performing laboratory testing.
• Strong computer skills for documentation, reporting, and data analysis.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.

Preferred Skills

• Experience operating automated treatment systems and SCADA controls.
• Knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and state environmental regulations.
• Experience with industrial wastewater from manufacturing or metal processing operations.
• Mechanical aptitude with pumps, piping systems, and process equipment.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced industrial environment.
• Strong communication skills.
• Previous experience mentoring or training operators
