River Valley Holdings is a family-owned distribution company based in Syracuse, NY, serving retail customers across the northeastern United States. The River Valley family of companies; River Valley Foods, Cavallaro Foods, and Empire Valley distributes a wide range of specialty dry and frozen grocery items and consumable products from warehouses in Syracuse, NY.
Position Summary
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of warehouse activities within a multi-temperature distribution environment, including frozen, refrigerated, and dry storage areas. This position provides direct leadership to warehouse personnel and warehouse leads while overseeing receiving, inventory control, order fulfillment, shipping, customer storage programs, and facility operations.
The Warehouse Supervisor is accountable for achieving operational objectives related to safety, productivity, inventory accuracy, service levels, employee development, and regulatory compliance. This position works closely with warehouse leadership and cross-functional departments to ensure efficient execution of daily operations while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, teamwork, and operational excellence.

- Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 3:30pm
Compensation:
- $75,000 - $80,000 per year
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Workforce Management
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and development of warehouse employees and warehouse leads.
- Establish clear performance expectations and hold employees accountable for achieving operational and behavioral standards.
- Conduct performance evaluations, coaching sessions, corrective action discussions, and employee development activities.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and workforce planning initiatives.
- Promote employee engagement, teamwork, and professional development.
- Serve as the primary point of escalation for warehouse personnel issues during assigned shifts.
Warehouse Operations Management
- Direct and coordinate daily warehouse operations, including receiving, replenishment, inventory management, order selection, staging, loading, and shipping activities.
- Ensure labor resources are effectively allocated to meet operational demands and customer service requirements.
- Monitor workflow and operational performance to ensure established productivity, accuracy, and service objectives are achieved.
- Collaborate with warehouse management to identify and implement process improvements and operational efficiencies.
- Support operational planning activities to address seasonal demand fluctuations and business growth initiatives.
Performance and Accountability
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators including productivity, inventory accuracy, order accuracy, service levels, safety performance, and labor utilization.
- Investigate operational variances and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Prepare and communicate operational performance reports to warehouse management.
- Recommend and implement continuous improvement initiatives designed to enhance efficiency, service, and cost control.
Inventory
- Maintain inventory integrity through cycle counts, audits, reconciliations, and transaction review.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements, service level agreements, and documentation standards.
Safety, Food Safety, and Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, food safety programs, GDP requirements, HACCP programs, SQF standards, and customer requirements.
- Conduct safety observations, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-up.
- Promote a culture of workplace safety and food safety throughout the operation.
- Ensure warehouse facilities maintain required sanitation, housekeeping, and operational standards.
Equipment and Facility Oversight
- Monitor the safe operation and proper utilization of warehouse equipment.
- Coordinate maintenance requests and facility repairs.
- Identify operational risks related to equipment, facility conditions, and warehouse infrastructure.
- Ensure warehouse facilities remain organized, clean, and audit ready.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience
- 3–5+ years of warehouse or distribution center experience.
- 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Experience with high-volume order selection and pick line operations preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of warehouse operations and inventory control practices.
- Familiarity with WMS, RF scanning, and labor management systems.
- Understanding of OSHA, food safety, HACCP, and GMP requirements.
- Ability to analyze productivity and operational data.
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and mentor team leaders, provide opportunities for growth and prepare them for future leadership roles.
- Conduct regular performance reviews with all team members.
- Monitor employee performance with measurable standards including selecting rates and error rates.
- Promote a culture of safety, conduct training sessions, and address safety concerns immediately to maintain a secure work environment.
- Enforce company policies and food safety standards, ensuring compliance with HACCP, FDA, and SQF regulations
- Manage the loading/unloading of trucks, ensuring orders are loaded accurately, safely, and efficiently to prevent damage during transit.
- Address and resolve order discrepancies promptly, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, promoting teamwork, accountability and exceptional customer service in all warehouse activities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment and work flexible schedules.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
