DEPARTMENT: Hardwood Warehouse West 1st location

SUMMARY:  Provides direction, support and training to swing shift crew.  Operates forklift to provide veneer to be graded/batched and manages veneer inventories.  Loads and unloads trucks, containers, and rail cars.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure safe operation of forklifts and conduct general maintenance including daily inspections.
• Unload and load trucks according to procedure.
• Tag loads as they come off trucks and put them in warehouse.
• Computer skills, including frequent use of AX. 
• Demonstrated ability to receive and correct PO’s
• Act as primary trainer for batching and forklift operators on swing shift
• Prioritize batching list and make sure relay’s get done in a timely manner
• Ensure safe operation of load turner and banding chopper
• Perform walks outside of building for cleanliness and safety
• Able to perform substitutions; physically & virtually
• Keep inventory organized
• Communicate via email / text with main plant about orders
• Ensure that safety, quality, & production goals are met.
• Communicate with day shift supervisor about safety, quality, & production issues
• Continuously improve efficiency of production in batching
• Cut veneer material to specifications
• Understand evacuation procedures
• Secure building and parking lot at end of shift
• Ensure safe operation of company vehicles and report deficiencies
• Cycle Count Inventory both Hardwood and Composites
• Stage core in the north building for the following morning transportation
• Know the difference between species of Hardwoods
• Able to grade hardwood to HPVA/ANSI standards
• Keep warehouse clean and organized.
• Take leadership courses when offered
• Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Prior leadership experience desired
• Proficient with Microsoft suite and ERP
• Forklift certification to be obtained within first 30 days.
• Knowledge of using label maker and receiving station to printout tickets.
• Working knowledge of paint striping system on veneer.
• Ability to work with little or no supervision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Use of personal protective equipment is required at all times.  (Hearing protection and safety glasses)
• General mill environment.  High noise, dust, jitney and pedestrian traffic.
• Frequent outdoors – hot and cold conditions.
• Fast paced environment.
