The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and people-centered leader to serve as our next Vice President of Human Resources. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, this leader will help shape the future of True North Goodwill by ensuring we have the people, leadership, culture, and organizational capacity needed to fulfill our mission and strategic goals.
The Vice President provides strategic and operational leadership for all Human Resources functions supporting approximately 300 employees. This role serves as a trusted advisor to the President & CEO and Executive Leadership Team and leads a Human Resources team that includes an HR Generalist and Recruiter.
The Vice President will establish shared accountability between Human Resources and operating leaders, ensuring leaders are equipped and accountable for the day-to-day employee experience, performance management, communication, development, and retention of their teams.
What You Will Lead
- Serve as an active member of the Executive Leadership Team and bring an enterprise perspective to strategy, growth, planning, and resource decisions.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive people strategy aligned with True North Goodwill’s mission, operating model, and future workforce needs.
- Lead talent acquisition, workforce planning, succession planning, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness efforts.
- Strengthen manager capability, employee engagement, performance management, communication, retention, and culture.
- Provide executive oversight of complex employee relations matters, investigations, conflict resolution, and workplace concerns.
- Oversee compensation, benefits, total rewards, employment compliance, policies, HR systems, workforce analytics, and the Human Resources budget.
- Lead, develop, and hold accountable a high-performing, responsive, confidential, and service-oriented Human Resources team.
- Guide the people dimension of organizational change and help leaders build readiness, communicate effectively, and sustain adoption.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including at least five years in senior leadership roles with responsibility for enterprise strategy and workforce planning.
- Demonstrated experience leading Human Resources in a multi-site organization and supporting a substantial frontline workforce.
- Experience advising a CEO and executive team, coaching senior leaders, leading organizational change, and managing complex employee relations matters.
- Experience using workforce analytics and HR technology to improve decisions, services, and outcomes.
- Executive presence, sound judgment, discretion, business acumen, and the ability to translate complex workforce issues into clear recommendations and action.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in nonprofit, retail, workforce development, healthcare, human services, manufacturing, or another complex operating environment.
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification. Credentials in executive coaching, change management, organizational development, benefits, or compensation are also valued.
What Success Looks Like in the First Year
- Build trusted relationships and establish credibility across the organization.
- Assess workforce capabilities, culture, talent needs, workforce risks, HR systems, and service delivery, then secure alignment around a prioritized people roadmap.
- Strengthen HR service delivery, compliance, operational processes, team roles, and accountability.
- Establish meaningful workforce metrics and a concise executive reporting cadence.
- Launch targeted initiatives to strengthen manager effectiveness, employee engagement, recruitment outcomes, retention, and early-tenure success.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary range of $90,000 to $100,000.
- Eligibility to participate in the Management Incentive Plan.
