Job Overview:

Position Summary

H&M Plating Company is seeking an experienced Vertical Grinder to operate vertical grinding and related machining equipment used to restore and finish large industrial components. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating grinding equipment, producing parts to exact dimensional specifications, and maintaining required surface finishes and tolerances.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate vertical grinding equipment to grind large cylindrical and industrial components.

  • Grind chrome-plated and unplated components to specified dimensions and surface finishes.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and dimensional specifications.

  • Determine appropriate grinding wheels, speeds, feeds, and machine settings.

  • Perform rough and finish grinding operations.

  • Monitor dimensions during the grinding process and make machine adjustments as necessary.

  • Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions.

  • Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy, surface finish, defects, and overall quality.

  • Safely load, unload, position, and secure large or heavy components.

  • Dress and maintain grinding wheels and perform routine machine maintenance.

  • Identify and report nonconforming material or machining conditions.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Follow company safety procedures and requirements for working around rotating machinery, lifting equipment, and industrial equipment.

  • Work closely with quality control and other machining personnel to meet production schedules and customer specifications.

Required / Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating a vertical grinder, vertical lathe, or comparable grinding equipment.

  • Experience grinding large cylindrical components.

  • Experience with chrome-plated parts is highly desirable.

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and machining tolerances.

  • Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.

  • Strong understanding of grinding processes, tooling, and surface finishes.

  • Ability to safely work around large rotating machinery and industrial equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and dimensional accuracy.
