Caltrol is looking for a full-time Valve Technician I to join our Pressure Management Group team in Benicia, CA.

You will work with our mechanical service team to assist in providing new product assembly, field repair, and shop services for pressure protection equipment. Our ideal candidate possesses mechanical knowledge, is customer service-focused, and is willing to learn from coworkers and assist in our new assembly and repair business.

You must have a valid driver's license in good standing and an excellent driving record. This is a safety-sensitive position. You are required to pass a pre-screen drug test that includes testing for marijuana. You will also be subjected to random hair follicle drug testing.

Hiring Range

The hiring range for this position is $23.00 to $25.00 per hour. This is the pay scale range Caltrol reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary based on geographic region, skills, qualifications, and experience of the candidate, along with the requirements of the position.

What you'll be doing:

Assist and learn how to test and assemble valves by following manufacturers’ assembly procedures, work orders, or other customer specifications.
Repair pressure management valves to include tear down, sandblasting, tagging, sealing, and lapping.
Follow procedures as required by ASME codes and National Board standards.
Inspect, evaluate, and verify the accuracy of the assembled unit for conformance to standards and customer requirements.
Prepare paperwork for repaired valves and ensure all details are accurately documented in Caltrol's software system.
Clean corrosive and other deposits from serviceable parts using solvents, wire brushes, or a sandblaster.
Required to work at the main facility as well as the customer site to tear down, decontaminate, assemble, repair, and test equipment.
Drive company vehicles to customer sites for pick up and deliveries of valves.
Regular maintenance and upkeep of shop equipment.
Goal to learn with hands-on experience to be able to safely work on repairing pressure protection equipment.
Employee will participate in drug testing pools and must maintain an acceptable status in each pool. This includes background checks every 2 years and random drug testing.

What we’re looking for:

Verbal and written skills to effectively communicate between departments and with customers.
Valid CA Driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
Ability to work weekends and overtime as required to meet customer needs.
Proficient computer skills.
Ability to safely use and maintain a large variety of tools and equipment associated with the assembly of valves and actuators, including impact wrenches, electric and manual hand tools, testing equipment, overhead cranes, and forklifts.
Ability to obtain a TWIC card within 60 days of hire (at Caltrol's expense).
Strong work ethic.

Preferred:

Basic mechanical aptitude and experience with hand tools.
Ability to read and interpret assembly manuals (IOM’s).

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Must be able to wear the maximum level of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction, which may include, but is not limited to, a hard hat, safety glasses, fire-resistant clothing, safety-toed footwear, hearing protection, respiratory protection, etc.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to walk and stand 8 hours per day.
Frequent climbing, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
Hazards: Potential exposure to chemicals. Proximity to moving mechanical and mobile equipment.
Must be able to work outside in environmental conditions with varying temperatures.

Work Hours:

Typical shop hours are 6:30 am – 3:00 pm Monday through Friday. Regular overtime is expected, sometimes with little to no notice. During outage seasons, employees may work over 60 hours, including weekends.

**Travel: **

Some local travel to customer sites. Regular overnight travel for training or to remote customer sites.
