Job Description

The Utility Technician provides general support to the machine shop and quality/fabrication department, ensuring safe, efficient, and organized operations. This role assists machinists and production personnel by handling material movement, cleaning equipment and work areas, preparing parts, performing basic machine maintenance, quality inspections and completing a variety of shop support tasks. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and willing to learn in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Machine Shop Support

• Clean and deburr parts to assist machinists and drive machine uptime.
• Prepare and stage material for mill and lathe jobs using shop saws.
• Move raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products using forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes, or other material handling equipment.
• Support CNC production by tending machines and assisting with production runs.
• Monitor and replenish machine coolant and way oil.
• Perform basic machine cleaning and preventive maintenance as directed.
• Clean and maintain CNC sump tanks, including assisting with cleaning and recharging.
• Empty chip hoppers, waste oil containers, and haul trash as required.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Perform general building and facility maintenance as needed.
• Run company errands, including deliveries to scrap yards, suppliers, and local vendors.

Fabrication & Quality Support

• Perform pressure testing on various products and assemblies.
• Buff backshells and operate polishing equipment.
• Clean parts using parts washer following polishing operations.
• Sandblast and deburr components as required.
• Assist with quality control inspections, including thread verification, gage pin inspections, and visual inspections.
• Kit parts for production and customer orders.
• Process scrap materials, including smashing scrap and removing bar ends.

Operational Support

• Other duties as assigned.
• Regular overtime is required based on business needs.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment is preferred but not required.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate shop equipment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Forklift or overhead crane experience is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license
