About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Utility Operator
to join our team at a premier, high-volume food manufacturing facility in Champaign. This plant has been a cornerstone of the community since 1963, offering unmatched job stability with no seasonal layoffs. In this role, you will be responsible for the "heartbeat" of the plant: operating and maintaining the high-pressure steam, industrial ammonia refrigeration, and compressed air systems.
Key Responsibilities
Boiler & Steam:
Operate and perform preventive maintenance on high-pressure steam boilers and associated water treatment systems.
Refrigeration:
Manage anhydrous ammonia refrigeration systems, including the maintenance of screw, vane, and reciprocating compressors.
Compressed Air:
Maintain and repair air compressors, cooling towers, and HVAC units.
Safety & Compliance:
Actively participate in the Process Safety Management (PSM) program and the emergency response team (including ammonia evacuation).
Maintenance:
Disassemble, clean, inspect, and repair utilities equipment to ensure 24/7 plant reliability.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of 4 years in industrial maintenance or utilities operation.
Technical Expertise:
Proven experience operating and maintaining
industrial steam boilers
is required.
License:
Must possess an active
EPA Universal Freon License
.
Safety:
Ability to pass a respirator fit test and work comfortably in environments where anhydrous ammonia may be present.
Physical:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in varied environments (ranging from extreme cold to heat exceeding 90°F).
