JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Hours: 12-Hour Rotating Shifts which include nights, weekends, and holidays. 



 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  

 

  • Feed broke pulper:
  • Maintain broke chest level.
  • Feed at a rate to maintain consistency.
  • Keep machine room floor clean:
  • Clean broke slabs and broke cart areas.
  • Spills should be cleaned up.
  • Clean basement from broke pulper to south wall.
  • Clean under broke pulper.
  • Assist in reel turnover.
  • Assist in test and lab samples.
  • Assist in Yankee doctor blade change.
  • Help winder crew as needed.
  • Help machine crew as needed.
  • Perform the following start-up duties:
  • Assist in machine wash-up and blow down.
  • Start broke pulper.


General Job Tasks:

 

  • Complete forklift checklist at the beginning of each shift.
  • For safety, notify the next person up in the line of progression that you’re leaving #1 floor area.
  • Assist in turnovers and sheet inspection.
  • Assist in paper machine sheet breaks and paper machine break downs.
  • Assist in paper machine clothing changes.
  • Assist in machine wash-ups and blow downs.
  • Assist with doctor blade changes.
  • Assist winder crew as directed by the crew leader.
  • Assist MH on all reel turnups.
  • Assist WO on rope changes.
  • Keep all designated areas clean and debris free throughout shift
  • Cut and handle broke as needed using proper PPE.
  • Slab off wash ups, grade changes and spool losses.
  • Be familiar with stock lines feeding from broke pulper (slusher) to screen chest, from 4000# 
  • pulper to secondary chest. 
  • Adjust seal waters on broke pulper and broke chest when needed.
  • Know the broke pulper (slusher) console for level control and consistency.
  • Know the importance of seal waters on pumps and agitators.
  • Understand the process after reel turn over, which is to assist MH & WO with the inspection 
  • of sheet, removal of reel from machine, transfer of reel to back-stand, taking test.
  • Take dumpsters and empty trash out as needed, but no less than once per shift.
  • Operation of compactor when emptying the cardboard dumpster.
  • Clean knock off shower filters at first of shift.
  • Empty trim basket before end of shift.
  • Clean mezzanine floor as needed, but no less than once per shift.
  • Clean basement around broke pulper (slusher) and bottom after dryer fabric as needed, but 
  • no less than once per shift.
  • Follow proper chain of command on any issues.
  • Perform any other miscellaneous duties assigned by Crew Leader/Machine Operator or 
  • Manager. 
  • Must be able to use the cardboard compactor safely.
  • Must be able to work the core cutter

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.   Ability to write simple correspondence.   Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to read measuring tape.

 REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

 OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to work well with others.

Ability to use instructions and directions efficiently.

 While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to vibration.  The employee is frequently exposed to risk of radiation.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
