About the Job:
The Underground Construction Miner will report to the Construction Supervisor. The schedule for this position is 14 days on at the mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 14 days off.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-shift inspections and fluid checks on all mobile mine equipment (e.g., shotcrete sprayers, loaders, telehandlers, excavators, etc.).
- Maintain a safe work environment through regular inspections, scaling, and clean-up.
- Operate and monitor the paste backfill system.
- Operate mining equipment, safely and effectively, including but not limited to: loaders, telehandlers, forklifts, manlifts, and jacklegs.
- Install utilities, concrete, and shotcrete securely and neatly.
- Apply shotcrete for construction and ground support.
- Perform welding and metal fabrication tasks.
- Execute concrete work, including wall building and pad pouring.
- Safely operate various powered mining equipment.
- Diagnose and repair water discharge systems and pumps.
- Maintain berms and scale mine areas to ensure ground stability.
- Inspect materials/products for quality and compliance.
- Clear and level benches as needed.
- Maintain and adjust equipment using hand tools.
- Use hand tools (e.g., shovels, scaling bars) effectively in mining operations.
- Perform minor maintenance and repairs on underground equipment.
- Carry out cross-trained duties and other assigned tasks.
- Attend required meetings and complete necessary documentation.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Ability to work safely and promote safe behavior in others.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience operating underground mining equipment in an underground, hard rock mine. Previous experience with shotcrete, concrete work, water discharge systems, and pumps preferred.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a team-oriented mindset.
- Willingness to assist others, adapt to changing conditions, and proactively solve problems in a dynamic and inclusive work environment.
- Able to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk or hear.
- Able to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to manipulate objects, or controls.
- Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Able to climb ladders and to work at heights.
- Able to work in all weather conditions and underground.
- Able to move/carry objects up to 50 lbs.
- Able to wear appropriate and required underground Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability.
- Preference given to Alaska residents.
