Job Overview:

Job Title: Truck Driver – Short Distance  

 

Job Summary 

Truck drivers operate heavy trucks to transport goods and materials on the short distance/local routs. Truck drivers will perform some shipping/receiving activities such as loading and unloading trucks, prepare documentations, performing safety checks on the vehicles 

 

Responsibility 

  • Support, Foster, Promote and Demonstrate Linamar’s Core Values and Leadership Behaviors.  

  • Maintain balance between customer, employee and financial satisfaction by maximizing facility/department Performance Indicators to align to Linamar’s Stepping Stool of Success Strategy.  

  • Support and maintain department lean initiatives as set out in LPS system requirements.  

  • Familiarity with McLaren’s Business Management System (BMS).  

  • Operate and drive company fleet to transport goods and material to destinations.  

  • Oversee all aspects of vehicles, such as condition of equipment, loading and unloading, and safety and security of cargo.  

  • Perform daily pre-trip inspection of vehicle systems and equipment such as tires, lights, and brakes.  

  • Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures  

  • Record cargo information, distance traveled, fuel consumption, and other information in logbook.  

  • Exhibit safe and courteous driving habits which exclude preventable motor vehicle collisions.  

  • Maintain an acceptable level of performance for scheduled pick-up and delivery times.  

  • Report defects, accidents or violations  

  • Coordinate the staging of shipments according to customer pull signals or shipping schedules.  

  • Prepare all shipping documentation in accordance with customer and export requirements including barcodes, commercial invoices, bills-of-lading, and packing lists.  

  • Arrange shipment of material to required destination in a timely manner.  

  • Drive hi-lo and load/unload trucks as required.  

 

Academic/Educational Requirements 

  • HS Diploma and at least 1 year of related experience. CDL-B license required. CDL-A preferred. 


Required Skills/Experience 
  • Intermediate computer skills.  

  • Valid driver’s license in good standing.  

  • Previous automotive/shipping background preferred  

  • Basic knowledge of MRP and computer systems.  

  • Knowledge of IFS would be beneficial.  

  • Ability to communicate effectively.  

  • Ability to operate a forklift. Must be licensed.  

  • Able to work as a team.  

  • Able to work quickly and efficiently.  

  • Positive attitude with high energy.
