Job Title:             Long Haul Truck Driver

Reports To:         Transportation Manger    

Salary:                 Starting at $70,000-$75,000 yearly salary (based on miles driven) 


 Job Summary

As a professional truck driver with Volm Companies, you are assigned late model tractors to pull 53’ refer or Dry Van trailers are dispatched to and from our plants, company distribution center, and our customers- you’ll be working for the shipper.   Safe driving, customer service, and effective decision making is the key to success in this position; we only hire the best of the best.

 Essential Duties

  • Performs safety checks on all trucking equipment before departure
  • Report any mechanical issues right away to your direct supervisor
  • Familiar & compliant with all traffic laws and safety requirements 
  • Maintains driver’s ELD logs
  • General warehouse duties; prepares loads for shipment
  • Keep a clean and safe work area, within the warehouses and within drivers’ truck
  • Operating a forklift and hand pallet jack once in a while- mostly no touch freight 
  • Loads & unloads product based on customer requirements with use of forklift and or hand cart
  • Collect and organize paperwork, including invoices 
  • Transports products from distribution center to retailers or directly to customers 
  • Drivers must be accessible by phone during their working hours, within legal limits of the CMV safety; communication is a key to our success. 
  • Transport and deliver freight in a safe, efficient, timely and legal manner; driver’s must manage their time to meet deadlines.
  • Represent the company and the trucking industry in a professional manner

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate in both the written and spoken language of English to a level that will allow the safe and effective performance of the job
  • Ability to read, interpret, and distinguish road signage
  • Ability to utilize GPS and maps to safely manage time and efficiency of the transportation goods.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Class A CDL required
  • Clean driving record
  • Forklift certification
  • DOT physical card
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic with a professional, positive attitude
  • Excellent customer service skills

Physical Requirements

  • Constant eye/hand/foot coordination, sitting and hearing 
  • Frequent talking 
  • Occasional standing, walking, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping 
  • Rarely lifts, carries, pushes, pulls, climbs, balance, stoops, kneels, crawls, feels
  • Ability to lift up to 80 pounds
  • Safety glasses, steel/composite toed shoes, and hearing protection when working on production floor
  • While this is a driver position which will require mostly inside a truck driving this position is also performed in outside weather conditions including a broad range of temperatures, rain, sleet, snow, wind, and high humidity. Muddy or icy conditions on both roads and jobsites may be encountered.
