Service Technician – Overhead Garage Doors

Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined Service Technician to join our growing team. The Service Technician will travel to residential and commercial customer locations to diagnose, repair, maintain, and install overhead garage doors and related equipment.
The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, enjoys working with their hands, takes pride in quality workmanship, and understands the importance of providing professional customer service. Experience with garage doors is preferred, but candidates with backgrounds in mechanical service, HVAC, electrical, construction, millwright, equipment repair, or similar skilled trades are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair residential and commercial overhead garage door systems.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues involving doors, tracks, rollers, hinges, cables, springs, drums, bearings, and related hardware.
- Install, repair, replace, and adjust garage door operators and openers.
- Perform routine maintenance and safety inspections on overhead door systems.
- Service torsion and extension spring systems using proper safety procedures.
- Repair and replace worn or damaged cables, rollers, hinges, tracks, weather seals, and other components.
- Troubleshoot safety sensors, remotes, keypads, controls, and other operator-related issues.
- Install and service residential, commercial, industrial, and rolling-steel door systems.
- Perform work safely from ladders, lifts, and elevated work areas when required.
- Evaluate existing equipment and communicate repair or replacement recommendations to customers.
- Accurately document work performed, parts used, and recommended follow-up services.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked service vehicle.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners, business owners, property managers, and other customers.
- Complete service calls efficiently while maintaining high standards for workmanship and customer satisfaction.
- Participate in emergency and after-hours service when required.
Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience in garage door service, mechanical repair, construction, electrical, HVAC, equipment maintenance, or a related trade preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose equipment problems.
- Comfortable using hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and understand basic mechanical diagrams and installation instructions.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls throughout the day.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to safely lift and handle garage door components and equipment.
- Comfortable working in residential, commercial, and outdoor environments.
- Willingness to learn company products, procedures, and safety standards.
Preferred Experience
Experience with any of the following is a plus:
- Garage door installation or repair
- Torsion and extension springs
- Commercial overhead doors
- Rolling steel and sheet doors
- LiftMaster or other garage door operators
- Electrical troubleshooting
- High-lift garage door systems
- Commercial door maintenance
- Construction or skilled trades

Physical Requirements
This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, working overhead, and lifting equipment and door components. Technicians must be comfortable working in confined spaces, garages, commercial facilities, and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
