JOB TITLE: Toolroom Supervisor
REPORTS TO: Toolroom Manager
FLSA: Exempt
JOB SUMMARY: Assists the Toolroom Manager with leading and directing all aspects of Accumold Mold Maintenance and the New Tooling Build teams. Help coordinate the assignments of the New Tooling Teams and Mold Maintenance team. Works to achieve on time project delivery and production ready molds for Accumold customers. Provides leadership to the Toolroom and fills in for Toolroom Manager as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use a team approach to motivate employees and organize the workflow for employees on all shifts for building new tools as well as providing maintenance and support to production as recommended by the Toolroom Manager.
- Participate in Concept Meetings/Design Reviews of the tools when needed.
- Diagnose and determine appropriate corrective action for problems with conditions of equipment, fixturing, tools and processes.
- Promotes safety, environmental, and ergonomic projects.
- Position requires the incumbent to be self-directed and capable of establishing, maintaining, and executing schedules and plans with minimal involvement from direct manager.
- Works together with Process Engineer to ensure that tooling is production ready before its release to the molding department. Helps in coordinating this process for Project Leaders if shift requirements do not allow for one-on-one communication.
- Recommend and coordinate personnel functions such as: hiring, orientating, mentoring, and training of new employees in the Tool Room. Assists Toolroom Manager with approving PTO and Timecards when needed. Provides input into employee appraisals and makes recommendation to the Toolroom Manager. Uses team approach to recommend advancements and reassignments, as well as necessary disciplinary action and follow up.
- Work with Accumold Leadership to recommend major purchases of capital equipment for budget and capital expenditure plans, both the annual plan as well as the future three-year plan.
9. Performs duties in accordance with Accumold’s Core Values, Policies, and Objectives. This includes the Quality Policy and Environmental Policy. Other duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Education/Experience. High school education coursework or GED required. Two-year tool & die degree plus four years experience in tooling or moldmaking preferred. Demonstrated experience using mold-making tools, set up and run of all mold making equipment. Ability to design and build a mold and shoot first article parts independently.
- Computer Skills. Ability to operate personal computer. Knowledge of Windows based CAD programs such as Master cam, AutoCAD and Solid Works.
- Language Skills. Read, comprehend, and utilize instructions and correspondence with professionals. Effectively present directions and information in one-on-one and small group situation to other employees.
- Mathematical Skills. Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Knowledge of rate, ratios, percent and use trigonometry. Ability to read and understand complicated designs and drawings.
- Reasoning Ability. Knowledge to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Use experience to understand cause and effect as it relates to moldmaking and toolmaking to trouble shoot and problem solve.
- Other Skills and Abilities. Willingness to attend conferences, classes or training to enhance and update knowledge and skills. Occasional travel may be requested for company business. Overtime may be required to meet toolroom work demands.
- Supervisory Responsibilities. Direct work task to others in Toolroom during assigned shift. Mentor and train employees in a team environment.
- Physical Demands. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to stand and use hand to manipulate very small parts or tweezers. Sense of touch may be used to detect texture, burs and edges. Frequent movement throughout the facility is required. Normal or corrected to normal vision is required with good color vision, close vision, and ability to use microscope and adjust focus. May be required to move or transport up to 55 lbs.
- Work Environment. The duties of this job are executed in a climate-controlled environment with few temperature or humidity extremes. Noise levels will vary from very low to moderate depending on the location that the work is performed within the facility. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee may have contact with machining residues such as steel chips, grinding dust, EDM smoke, cutting oils and coolants. Safety glasses are required.
