Job Description

Survey tool orders and tool designs to review planning and design data for practicability and necessity of tool. Establish tool fabrication and shop span time, and recommend revision if necessary. Determine and order required materials, reference tools, and coordinating tools. Develop supplemental sketches of tools or component details to facilitate tooling fabrication and manufacture. Specialize in such duties in one of the tool manufacturing shops and have general familiarity with the other tool manufacturing shops.

WORK PERFORMED
Survey and analyze tool orders and tool designs to determine the practicability of the tool as pertains to tooling costs, ease of manufacture, and necessity of tool. Review design and planning data to determine whether method of manufacture and available shop equipment is practicable, and recommend changes as necessary. Check material callouts, design, engineering, and planning data with respect to operational sequence and shop loading. Recommend changes in machine or shop operation sequence. Survey and analyze tool fabrication orders and tool design data to determine the time required to fabricate templates, dies, jigs, fixtures, patterns, forming blocks, and other miscellaneous tools. Recommend revision if estimate is unrealistic. Determine shop span in accordance with tool fabrication time and shop load conditions, and recommend revision, if necessary. Determine and order necessary materials, reference, and/or coordinating tooling; such as master gauges, templates, shop aids, Keller patterns, photo reproductions, master parts, and any other equipment required to make and/or prove parts and tools.

Confer with Engineering, Planning, Tool Design, Tool Control, and representatives of other departments relative to the coordination of revisions or to furnish manufacturing reference data.

Develop supplementary sketches of tools and/or component details to be used in addition to tool order and tool design information.

Utilizes computer based system for input/retrieval of information related to the support of tooling fabrication operations, and ground support equipment (AGE).
Thorough knowledge of either the jig and fixture, tool and die, template, or plaster pattern shop functions, duties, and practices; and basic knowledge of the other tool manufacturing shops. Thorough knowledge of tool fabrication, tool planning, and tool design practices; sequence of fabrication of tools and parts; and blueprint reading. Ability to analyze technical data and to confer with personnel of other departments in recommending and obtaining necessary corrections. Thorough knowledge of machine tools and the limitations of such tools.

Basic Qualifications

Required to have one of the following minimum levels of experience and/or training:

 Four years of experience in one of the following Tool Making Trades with a least one of the four years being at the journeyman (“A” level)

 Tool & Die Maker “A”, 545-3

 Plaster & Plastic Tooling Builder “A”, 471-3

 Jig & Fixture Builder “A”, 440-3

 Template Maker “A”, 543-3

OR

 Two years of experience as a Machinist – General

Desired skills

Prior aircraft experience

Ability to work remotely

Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
