Job Overview:

**POSITION SUMMARY:

**

Tooling Engineers design and develop new tooling and fixtures, ensuring they meet the specific needs of the manufacturing process

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

**

  1. Design and develop new tooling and fixtures

  2. Drafts drawings of die designs necessary to form complete forging, stamping, or other methods to produce parts to product requirements and specifications

  3. Determines sequence and number of die stages in which single or progressive cutting, punching, and forming will be accomplished, and type of die sets required to produce complete part, based on knowledge of dies, forming processes, and machines

  4. Selects purchased items, such as die sets and bushings, to incorporate into die design

  5. Drafts scale drawings of each die set, delineating contours and dimensions for manufacture of the complete die as necessary for manufacture and assembly

  6. (May) observe setup and tryout of newly developed die set in production machine to determine need for redesign or readiness for production use

  7. Communicates with co‑workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities

  8. Proficiency in 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks

**TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

**

Between 4 and 10 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship. Many designers have first completed hands‑on and theory apprenticeships in tool and die making.

You should be proficient in:

  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)

Machines & technologies you'll use:

  • CNC Mill (3-4 axis VMC)
  • CAM Software
  • CNC Lathe (5+ axis)
