Job Summary
The Tool Room Machinist is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating manual and CNC machine tools to manufacture, repair, and modify tooling, fixtures, dies, gauges, and precision components. This position supports production by ensuring tooling accuracy, quality, and minimal downtime.
Job Description
- Set up and operate manual machines (lathe, mill, surface grinder, drill press, hole burner, etc.)
- Set up CNC mills and/or lathes (prove out programs, set offsets, adjust tooling)
- Interpret blueprints, GD&T, and engineering drawings
- Manufacture and repair fixtures, dies, jigs, and special tooling
- Hold tight tolerances (±.0005" or as required)
- Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements
- Assist with tooling design modifications
- Maintain tool room organization and equipment
- Follow all safety procedures and company standards
Skills & Education
- 3–7+ years experience in tool room or precision machining environment
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
- Experience with tight tolerance machining
- Proficient in manual machining (critical in tool room environment)
- CNC setup experience preferred
- Knowledge of tool steels, heat treating, and surface finishes
- Proficiency in using calipers, micrometers, and other inspection equipment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- GED or high school diploma required
