**POSITION SUMMARY

**

The Tool/Die Maker is responsible for making and repairing tools, dies, fixtures for continuous run, punch press and related metal fabricating machines. May be assigned to a specific tool room capacity and/or may be assigned to provide back up to other tool room personnel.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

**

  • Receives engineering drawings or blueprints.

  • Operates various machine tools to build dies, construct fixtures, fabricate prototypes and machine close tolerance metal parts. May make recommendations about design of part.

  • Receives dies. Checks and inspects die for damage. Evaluates problems and implements immediate solutions to reduce problem recurrence. Uses hand and hand power tools to disassemble die for cleaning and repair. Wipes and cleans die. Performs routine and complex repairs.

  • Sets up and operates various machine tools to make or repair tools, dies, fixtures and to sharpen tools. Performs setup and operation of grinders, drills, mills, lathes, and various hand tools. Plans sequence of operations and performs one or more setups to accomplish required machining operations.

  • Read blueprint and die specifications. Uses micrometer, calipers, and fixed or adjustable gauges as needed to ensure that repairs meet specified tolerances.

  • Operates die lifter, lift truck, overhead or jib crane, and related material handling equipment to lift, move, and handle die. Lifts, moves, and handles items using safe lifting techniques.

  • Performs routine operator maintenance to machines. Troubleshoots production lines, dies and other mechanical tooling. Lubricates machine, checks oil levels, greases fittings, wipes spills, clears away scrap or trash.

  • Observes safety standards, follows safety rules, wears specified personal protective equipment. Maintains neat work area. Participates in safety activities.

  • Maintains records related to die repair, engineering changes, quality, etc. Reviews records, notifies superior, or takes corrective action to maintain quality and production standards.

  • May train or instruct others on machining techniques, die maintenance, or repair.

  • Recommends improvements.

  • Participates in training.

  • Recommends revisions to customer designs to accommodate existing tooling.

  • Maintains inventory levels of spare die components and other required supplies.

  • Timely and accurate completion of all paperwork associated with position.

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures in including safety and attendance requirements.

  • Participate in activities to increase personal skill level, overall departmental processes, and product quality.

  • Resolve day-to-day issues by working effectively with others.

  • Other duties required to meet company needs as assigned by supervisor.

**MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITITES

**

  • Ability to use assigned machinery and equipment.

  • Read and understand Blueprints, Piece Prints and GDT.

  • Advanced Math skills including calculation of feeds, speeds, and distances, print conversion and Geometry.

  • Understand and use a variety of measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, etc.)

  • Use CNC computer programs and control panels.

  • Understand machining properties of various raw materials

  • Good communication skills including the ability to receive and give oral and written instruction.

**MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

**

  • Sedentary position

  • Ability to travel by various public and private transport methods.

  • 20/20 vision required with or without correction.

  • Use of hands 100% of the workday.

  • Ability to stand or walk 25% of the workday.

  • Twisting, bending, leaning frequently during the workday.

  • Office environment, occasional exposure to loud noises, dust, solvents, coolants, and oils.
