Job Overview:

TOOL & DIE MAKER

Location: North Side of Chicago, IL

Pay: $30–$35 per hour

Schedule: 1st Shift, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM

Benefits: Medical, Dental, Retirement & PTO after 720 working hours

Our client, an established metal stamping company on the North Side of Chicago, is seeking an experienced Tool & Die Maker to join their team. This position is responsible for repairing, modifying, troubleshooting, and building tooling used in punch press and fourslide/multi-slide operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Repair, modify, troubleshoot, and debug existing punch press and fourslide/multi-slide dies to maintain part quality and production standards.

  • Try out and debug new dies, making adjustments to meet required part dimensions and specifications.

  • Troubleshoot dies in production to identify problems and determine the appropriate corrective action.

  • Disassemble dies and inspect for worn or damaged blocks, perforators, springs, punches, and die sections.

  • Machine new tooling components as needed and reassemble dies.

  • Read and work from blueprints, sketches, models, specifications, die designs, shop orders, and sample parts.

  • Manufacture tooling components to tight tolerances and inspect completed dies for timing accuracy and defects.

  • Fit and assemble parts to build, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools using machine tools and hand tools.

  • Set up and operate conventional and CNC equipment, including drill presses, lathes, milling machines, grinders, Mazak VMC, and Makino wire EDM.

  • Work closely with Tool Design Engineers to ensure tooling is manufacturable and meets production requirements.

  • Assist with the general upkeep, cleanliness, and organization of the tool room and equipment.

  • Train apprentices or subordinate employees on toolroom equipment, blueprint reading, and proper use of measuring tools.

  • Efficiently debug tooling while maintaining accuracy and production timelines.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Journeyman Tool & Die Maker certification or equivalent hands-on experience.

  • Experience repairing and troubleshooting punch press and/or fourslide/multi-slide dies.

  • Basic AutoCAD skills.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Strong blueprint-reading skills.

  • Understanding of Toolroom equipment, machinery, and tooling processes.

  • Ability to set up and operate conventional and CNC machine tools.

  • Ability to manufacture and inspect components to tight tolerances.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

You should be proficient in:

  • Tool/Die/Mold Repair Skills
  • Tool/Die/Mold Setup Experience
  • Blueprint Reading
