Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Tool & Die Maintainer responsible for the daily repair, maintenance, rebuilding, and troubleshooting of progressive dies and tooling. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with progressive dies, punch press equipment, machining equipment, precision measurement, and metal forming processes.
This position requires a safety-conscious, self-motivated team player who can work independently, troubleshoot tooling issues, and maintain high standards of quality and precision.
Key Responsibilities
Build, repair, maintain, and rebuild progressive dies according to design requirements.
Modify existing tooling based on customer changes and production requirements.
Sharpen and repair progressive dies as needed.
Troubleshoot press and die problems and recommend corrective actions.
Perform changeovers on multiple-part tooling.
Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical documentation.
Machine die components as required.
Set up die components and tooling for production.
Set up and safely operate tool room equipment, including:- Drills
- Lathes
- Grinders
- Milling machines
Fit and assemble tools and dies to ensure proper function, smoothness, and accurate contours.
Inspect tools and dies for defects, dimensional issues, smoothness, and contour deformities.
Conduct test runs with completed tools and dies.
Use precision measuring equipment such as calipers and micrometers.
Follow all company safety rules, policies, procedures, and quality standards.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of tool room equipment and its safe and efficient operation.
- Knowledge of proper progressive die build, repair, and maintenance procedures.
- Experience with punch press equipment and metal forming processes.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve press and die issues.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and CAD drawings.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments, including calipers and micrometers.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Team-oriented with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Safety-conscious, dependable, and self-motivated.
- Basic computer skills.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Five years of related experience and/or training preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- TMA certificate or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience with progressive dies, stamping, tool and die maintenance, or metal forming is highly desirable.
Language & Communication Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and CAD drawings.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and other team members.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts in a manufacturing and tooling environment.
Reasoning & Problem-Solving Skills
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding and follow instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and tooling problems.
- Ability to deal effectively with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to make sound decisions in a production environment.
Work Environment
This position is performed in a manufacturing/tool room environment. While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee may regularly be exposed to:
