The 2nd Shift Lead will oversee daily operations in the Tool & Die CNC Machine Shop to ensure production goals, quality standards, and safety procedures are consistently met. This hands-on leadership role involves coordinating team activities, setting priorities, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining a productive workflow across machining, grinding, and toolmaking areas.
Lead and coordinate the activities of 2nd shift CNC machinists, toolmakers, and support staff.
Set daily production priorities in alignment with department schedules and customer deadlines.
Ensure all parts meet quality specifications and tolerances through routine checks and inspections.
Train and mentor team members in machining techniques, setup procedures, and safety protocols.
Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and maintenance staff to resolve tooling or equipment issues.
Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, production reports, and quality records.
Monitor inventory of raw materials, tooling, and consumables; report shortages or maintenance needs.
Promote a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company and OSHA standards.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to efficiency, quality, and team performance.
High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
5+ years of experience in CNC machining, tool and die making, or precision manufacturing.
2+ years of leadership or lead experience in a machining environment.
Strong understanding of CNC machine operations, G&M code, tooling setup, and blueprint reading.
Ability to use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) and interpret GD&T.
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
