This role ensures optimal die performance to support high-volume production, minimize downtime, and maintain product quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, troubleshoot, and repair progressive, transfer, and line dies used in metal stamping presses.

  • Diagnose die failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Perform die tryouts and support new die launches, including spotting, fitting, and timing adjustments.

  • Maintain shut heights, die clearances, and alignment to ensure proper press operation and part quality.

  • Operate toolroom equipment such as surface grinders, mills, lathes, and EDM machines.

  • Work closely with press operators, engineers, and maintenance teams to resolve tooling and production issues.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and continuous improvement modifications on dies to extend tool life.

  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, die layouts, and CAD models.

  • Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, indicators, height gauges, optical comparators) to verify tolerances.

  • Document die repairs, maintenance activities, and engineering changes in ERP or maintenance systems.

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of a Tool and Die apprenticeship or equivalent experience preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in metal stamping die making, with strong experience in progressive dies.

  • In-depth knowledge of stamping processes, die protection systems, and press operations.

  • Ability to read and interpret complex tooling prints and GD&T.

  • Experience with die spotting, timing, and press setup support.

  • Attention to detail and quality-focused mindset

  • Ability to work under production pressure and meet deadlines

  • Effective communication across production, engineering, and maintenance teams

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced metal stamping facility with exposure to presses, moving machinery, and noise

  • May require shift work, overtime, or on-call support for production issues

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Frequent standing, bending, and manual dexterity

  • Visual acuity for detailed inspection and precision work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with servo or high-speed stamping presses

  • Familiarity with die protection sensors and automation systems
