LOCATION: Frankfort, IN

Position Summary:

Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, setup and operate machine tools, fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cut tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinist hand tools.

Essential Functions:

Lift position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables using hoists, vices, v-block and/or angle plates.

Fit and assemble parts to make, repair or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.

File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to ensure proper fit.

Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.

Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.

Cut, shape and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shear, rules, and hand tools.

Measure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes, and rulers.

Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly.

Smooth and polish flat and contoured surface of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders.

Design jigs, fixtures, and templates for use as work aids in the fabrication of parts or products.

Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies based on specifications.

Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance.

Inspect finished dies for smoothness and tolerance.

Ensure safety standards are adhered to at all times.

Skills and Abilities:

Operation monitoring of gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure machines work properly.

Equipment selection determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do job.

Strong mechanical and troubleshooting ability.

Keen attention to detail.

Ability to interpret metric and standard dimensions.

Education - HS diploma required.

Experience - Trade certificate is strongly preferred.

Working Conditions:

This is a 2nd shift position with core working hours being 3pm - 11pm.
3-5 years experience in a manufacturing facility.

Ability to lift 50+ pounds and stand for 8+ hours, as well as bend, twist, and climb.

Must be flexible and willing to work any shift, including OT, weekends or holidays.
