We send our employees on 3- or 6-month contracts at manufacturing companies nationwide throughout the year. You can choose how many assignments you take per year, and you're free to come and go as you like, as long as you successfully complete the contracts you commit to. FlexTrades is hiring experienced TIG Welders/Fabricators for upcoming projects involving stainless steel ASME tanks, process skids, pharmaceutical equipment, food-grade processing systems, water treatment equipment, chemical processing systems, and industrial manufacturing. All work is performed in indoor manufacturing environments.
Pay and Schedule
- $34 per hour (depending on contract and experience)
- 50+ hours per week
- Overtime paid at time and a half
Travel and Benefits
- Paid travel to and from the project
- Paid lodging (private hotel room)
- $45 per day tax-free per diem for personal expenses
- Family, spouse, and pets are welcome during assignments

Position DetailsWe are seeking TIG Welders/Fabricators experienced with stainless steel tanks, vessels, piping systems, and process skids. This is not a production welding position where you'll simply weld all day. Welding generally represents only 5-20% of the job. The majority of the work involves assembly, layout, fitting, grinding, polishing, finishing, blueprint reading, and mechanical fabrication. The ideal candidate will have strong TIG welding experience on stainless steel, the ability to read and build from prints, and experience producing food-grade or high-quality cosmetic finishes.
Responsibilities
- Perform layout, fitting, assembly, fabrication, grinding, polishing, and TIG welding of stainless steel tanks and process skid systems
- Fit, tack, and weld components according to blueprints and weld symbols
- TIG weld 304 and 316 stainless steel sheet, plate, tubing, and pipe
- Interpret blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication instructions
- Perform cosmetic grinding and finishing to food-grade standards
- Utilize air-powered grinders, Dynabrades, straight grinders, and finishing tools
- Perform welding in standard and hard-to-access locations
- Maintain dimensional accuracy and quality throughout fabrication and assembly
- Operate overhead cranes and jib cranes safely when moving assemblies and components
- Perform final finishing, cleanup, and inspection preparation
Qualifications
- Strong TIG (GTAW) welding experience required
- MUST have experience TIG welding 304 and/or 316 stainless steel
- Experience fitting, fabricating, and assembling components required
- Ability to read blueprints, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols
- Experience welding tube, pipe, sheet metal, and plate
- Ability to produce high-quality cosmetic welds and finishes
- Experience grinding, polishing, and finishing stainless steel surfaces
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience with food-grade, sanitary, pharmaceutical, water treatment, or process equipment preferred
- Experience with P&IDs is a plus
- Tip TIG experience is a plus but not required
- Walking-the-cup experience is beneficial but not required
Materials and Welding
- 304 and 316 stainless steel
- Tube, pipe, sheet metal, and plate fabrication
- Typical weld sizes from 1/8" to 3/16"
- Primary welding position is flat
- High-frequency TIG welding
- 98/2 shielding gas mixture
- Food-grade and cosmetic finish requirements
Weld Test
- 2" Schedule 80 stainless steel pipe TIG weld test (6G)
- 1/2" stainless tubing TIG weld test (6G)
- Bend testing and visual inspection
- Purging and full-penetration welding required
- Practice material available
- Retest opportunities available
