**POSITION SUMMARY
**
The TIG Welder / Laser Welder is responsible for producing high-quality welded components and assemblies according to engineering drawings, work instructions, customer specifications, and established quality standards.
This position requires strong attention to detail and the ability to weld thin-gauge sheet metal while maintaining consistent weld quality, appearance, dimensions, and productivity. The employee will primarily perform TIG and laser welding but may also assist with other fabrication and assembly operations as required.
**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
**
Set up and operate TIG welding equipment and laser welding equipment.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, specifications, and work instructions.
Weld stainless steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and other materials as required.
Perform precision welding on thin-gauge sheet metal and fabricated components.
Select appropriate welding parameters, including amperage, voltage, wire/feed settings, shielding gas, and laser settings.
Properly prepare, fit, align, and tack components before welding.
Inspect parts before, during, and after welding to ensure conformance to specifications.
Maintain proper weld size, penetration, appearance, and dimensional requirements.
Identify weld defects such as porosity, undercut, cracking, distortion, excessive buildup, and incomplete fusion.
Perform grinding, blending, deburring, and finishing as required.
Maintain proper cleanliness of welding surfaces and equipment.
Complete first-piece inspections and in-process inspections as required.
Accurately record production quantities, labor time, scrap, and quality issues.
Follow established work instructions, WPS requirements, and safety procedures.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Properly maintain welding machines, fixtures, tooling, and related equipment.
Report equipment problems, material issues, quality concerns, and production delays to supervision.
Work with other departments to maintain production flow and meet customer delivery requirements.
Assist with developing and improving welding setups, fixtures, processes, and work instructions.
Cross-train in other fabrication processes as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
**LASER WELDING RESPONSIBILITIES
**
Set up and operate laser welding equipment according to established procedures.
Load and position parts accurately in fixtures.
Verify proper machine programs, settings, and material before beginning production.
Monitor weld quality throughout the production run.
Make approved parameter adjustments when necessary.
Maintain proper focus, alignment, cleanliness, and condition of laser welding equipment.
Follow all laser safety requirements and machine-specific operating procedures.
Notify supervision or maintenance of equipment abnormalities or unsafe conditions.
**TIG WELDING RESPONSIBILITIES
**
Set up TIG welding machines for various materials and thicknesses.
Select appropriate tungsten, filler material, shielding gas, and welding parameters.
Perform clean, consistent welds with minimal distortion.
Weld cosmetic and structural components to drawing and customer requirements.
Maintain proper torch control and heat management.
Perform welding in various positions as required by the job.
Blend and finish welds when required by the drawing or customer specifications.
**QUALITY EXPECTATIONS
**
The employee is responsible for producing parts that meet established quality requirements.
Key expectations include:
First-piece approval before running production when required.
Consistent weld appearance and quality.
Correct dimensions and part orientation.
Proper weld size and location.
Minimal rework and scrap.
Accurate completion of inspection documentation.
Immediate communication of quality problems.

**PRODUCTION EXPECTATIONS
**
The TIG/Laser Welder is expected to:
Meet established production standards.
Maintain efficient machine utilization.
Minimize downtime and unnecessary machine adjustments.
Maintain accurate production counts.
Complete jobs according to scheduled priorities.
Communicate immediately when a job cannot be completed as scheduled.
Support efforts to reduce setup time, rework, scrap, and production delays.
**SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
**
Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
Wear required PPE at all times.
Follow laser safety procedures and controls.
Properly use welding helmets, safety glasses, gloves, protective clothing, and respiratory protection when required.
Maintain proper ventilation and fume-control practices.
Report unsafe conditions immediately.
Never bypass machine guards, interlocks, or safety devices.
Maintain a clean and safe work area.
**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
**
Previous TIG welding experience required.
Previous laser welding experience preferred.
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
Ability to use basic measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
Knowledge of welding principles and practices.
Ability to identify common weld defects.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
**
2+ years of TIG welding experience.
Experience with sheet-metal fabrication.
Experience welding stainless steel and aluminum.
Laser welding experience.
Experience with CNC/automated welding equipment.
Experience with Amada or similar fabrication equipment.
Ability to interpret GD&T.
Experience working from WPS procedures.
Experience with first-piece and in-process inspection.
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
**
The employee must be able to:
Stand for extended periods.
Frequently bend, reach, push, pull, and lift.
Safely handle sheet-metal components.
Lift and move materials within established company requirements.
Perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to welding equipment, noise, heat, and metal fabrication processes.

**SUCCESS IN THIS POSITION
**
A successful TIG Welder / Laser Welder will consistently produce high-quality weldments safely, efficiently, and according to schedule while taking ownership of quality and communicating problems before they affect production.
**The expectation is not simply to weld parts, but to take ownership of the entire welding process—from setup and first-piece inspection through completion and final quality.
