Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced TIG Welder to join a manufacturing and fabrication team. This position is ideal for a skilled welder with strong GTAW/TIG experience working with stainless steel and carbon steel, along with experience using Flux Core (FCAW) welding processes.
The ideal candidate will have experience welding pipe, tubing, structural components, machinery, and fabricated assemblies. Candidates should be comfortable reading blueprints and weld symbols, fitting and assembling components, and producing clean, consistent welds to established quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform TIG/GTAW welding on stainless steel and carbon steel components, pipe, tubing, machinery, and assemblies.
- Perform Flux Core (FCAW) welding as required for various fabrication and manufacturing applications.
- Weld in multiple positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead, and 6G.
- Set up and operate TIG and Flux Core welding equipment, selecting appropriate amperage, wire/filler material, tungsten, shielding gas, and welding techniques.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, weld symbols, dimensions, tolerances, and welding specifications.
- Fit, align, position, and tack components prior to welding.
- Perform pipe and structural fabrication according to drawings and specifications.
- Use measuring and layout tools such as calipers, tape measures, squares, levels, straightedges, and other precision equipment.
- Maintain proper heat control to minimize warping, distortion, shrinking, and other welding defects.
- Inspect completed welds for quality, appearance, penetration, defects, and compliance with specifications.
- Grind, clean, prep, and finish welds as required.
- Operate hand and power tools commonly used in welding and fabrication.
- Maintain welding equipment and report equipment or process issues to the supervisor or lead.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, and production requirements.
- Work independently while communicating effectively with supervisors, leads, and other production team members.
- Complete welding and fabrication assignments accurately while meeting production schedules.
- Assist with additional fabrication, assembly, and production duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of professional TIG/GTAW welding experience.
- Strong hands-on experience TIG welding both stainless steel and carbon steel.
- Flux Core (FCAW) welding experience is required.
- Experience welding pipe and/or fabricated metal components.
- Ability to weld in multiple positions, including 6G.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical drawings.
- Experience with fitting, fabrication, layout, and assembly.
- Ability to understand welding specifications, dimensions, tolerances, and quality requirements.
- Strong knowledge of welding equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to use measuring and layout equipment accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality welds.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work overtime or occasional weekends when required.
Mandatory Weld Test
Candidates must successfully pass both of the following TIG weld tests:
- 2-inch Schedule 160 carbon steel pipe – TIG, 6G position
- ¼-inch Schedule 80 carbon steel pipe – TIG, 6G position
Successful completion of the weld test is required for consideration for the position.
Preferred Experience
- TIG welding 304 and/or 316 stainless steel.
- Carbon steel pipe welding.
- Flux Core welding experience.
- Experience with thin-gauge stainless steel.
- Experience with industrial machinery, equipment, piping, or structural fabrication.
- Experience working from detailed fabrication drawings and welding specifications.
- Experience with MIG/GMAW welding in addition to TIG and Flux Core.
- Experience with sanitary, food-grade, industrial, or other precision fabrication.
- Experience with pipe fitting and fabrication.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial welding environment.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to stand for extended periods while performing welding and fabrication duties.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, and work in various positions.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with moderate to high noise levels.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move materials weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to work safely around welding equipment, machinery, metal components, sparks, heat, fumes, and other manufacturing hazards.
- Proper PPE and adherence to all safety procedures are required
